To the grandparent who feels that they should be allowed to walk their child to class. If anyone could get into the school and walk around whenever they felt like it, don't you think that it would be putting our children at risk? What if a predator entered the building saying they were a parent. We are not living in the 70's anymore, please!
I have two childern going to Drake and couldn't be happier with the results I have seen from them. Both Childern have attend the schools gifted and talented program and I have been kept informed with their progress regualrly. The administration has a great open door policy and have always answered my question in a timely manner. I bought my house in this school district so my kids could go here and have never regretted that decision.
I have four children that are currently or have attended Drake School. Drake is a very well run school that emphasizes to the students Respect, Responsibility and the Right to learn. All the teachers are very qualified and more important, very caring. There is a Gifted & Talented program and other enrichment programs offered. Both the music and art offered are top notch, with both chorus and band. One of Drake's biggest strengths is its strong PTA and parent involvement. Drake encourages and welcomes parent volunteers and the PTA has many activities for the entire family to share together. Many people have chosen to but houses in the Drake district because of the superior school experience for their children.
I have seen a significant negative change in my grandchild since she has been in her grade 1 class. The expectations of these children is set far too high for this age group causing an almost neurotic reaction...'bad' seems to be the politcally correct word to emphasize spelling errors, spilled milk, etc. There is rare creative activity, rare outdoor play. Parent interaction with the teacher/students is discouraged...one cannot even walk their child into class, one is not encouraged to see what goes on in the classroom..seems they do an awful lot to keep the parents out..wonder why...something to hide?? I am an employee of a school board where parent/student/teacher interaction is hightly encouraged proving positive results from all...I would not and do not advocate this school if you wish your child to positively excel..it seems to be very secretive.
