My son is in his final year at Nyack Middle School and he has had a fantastic experience. Bullying is dealt with immediately and effectively, the atmosphere is one of collaboration, warmth, inclusiveness, encouragement and safety. Teachers overall are very caring and dedicated, academics range from remedial to honors: all students' academic needs are met. The school is well organized, many kudos to the wonderful principal, assistant principal, and all staff. As a veteran educator myself, I can't say enough about the wonderful job the administration and faculty of NMS does with what is probably the most challenging of all the developmental stages!

this school is not good at all - the kids are out of control - the teachers dont ACT like teachers - and there is alot of bullying going on that the teachers are not addressing. I am very dissatisfied with it - the elementary schools in the district are good - the highschool seems to be overcoming alot of their issues but something needs to be done about the middle school

My daughter went to Nyack Public Schools from the 7th grade. We were in Clarkstown district and I was concerned about how the change would effect the quality of education. There are caring teachers with exciting projects and a caring department. The faculty and administration both kept in touch when we needed them.

I am thrilled with my sons experience at the NMS this year. The staff has been great - very good communication from all levels of staff (principal, guidance and teachers). I was impressed with the thought given to the 6th grade transition. Classes are rightsized - extra help is always available. They have many afterschool clubs to keep the kids busy. B+

Ever since I moved to Nyack in 2001, the MS has had a very poor and probably well deserved reputation. However, with the introduction of a new Principal and Vice Principal in 2007, the school has really experienced a turn around. This team works so well together and are clearly very committed to the improvement of the school. They have been very clear about behavioral expectations, which have been communicated to both parents and students, and have been diligently enforced. The children are now able to learn much more effectively in a safe and less distracting school environment. I am very encouraged and congratulate them on the progress they have made in such a short time.

The overall quality of academic programs are good but not the best. Parent involvement shoudl be more encouraged.

The school is looking for another principal yet again.Four principals in five years.Dr.McCalla has proven to be a competent and effective principal. He has been successful in bringing respect and order in a school that was always considered to be a problem school. The attitudes of the staff and the children are positive and peaceful. The children come to school with proper clothing and ready to learn. There is no more competition among the kids in the type of clothing they wear.Fewer and fewer disciplinary problems. The grades have improved. The positive changes can not be argued. We should not be looking for a new principal, we shoul work with the good principal we have. Only with support and cooperation, we are able to accomplish what is in the best interest of our kids.
