Excellent system. I spent 5 years on the Olean School Board. I would give the teachers a 5 star rating. They do a Super job-considering the high teacher/student ratio.
I am a Parent and a past student i enjoyed this school
As a parent of an average kid, this school has helped me with financial aid questions, has supported my child and helped with scholarships. I have had nothing, but a great working relationship with this Guidance Department. They return my calls immediately, help with all of my questions and encouraged my child take challenging classes throughout high school. I never had a problem with transcripts and I have had three children enter college from this high school!
Guidance department [has] not sent transcripts to colleges for some kids , not published correct information about student awards and scholarships, and demonstrate they do nothing for 'average' kids.
The only thing I do not like about the high school in Olean is the lack of interest in the music department. In Olean it's sports, sports, sports, not that many people are concerned with the music department.
good school for sports and education. nice diversity. this is a well rounded school with great teachers many sport options and families who care.
I have never seen or experienced teacher apathy to the degree I've experienced at this school. I am an educator myself and cannot begin to explain the complete disregard shown towards students at this school by both the teachers and administration. My child is a gifted student who takes AP and college level courses in her junior year, but when harassed and bullied by other students, nothing was done to prevent this. Her grades suffered and she became emotionally unstable. I literally had to move to another town to enroll my daughter into another school district. She is currently set to graduate with highest honors and will be attending an Ivy League school in the fall. Do not attend Olean if possible.
The vice principal is great, he works with the kids and he see the best in them. He doesn't look down on the kids. If the kids have a problem he works with them even if they are having trouble with wanting to stay in school. He will work one on one with the parent and the child. He is great for Olean high students.
