This school is a paradox. Half the teachers don't care at all, but the other half will do anything to make sure you do well in their class. However, the IB program is awful. It focuses on useless skills, and wastes time with pointless busy work. The administration seems to be removed from the lives of students, and can't connect with most of them. Perhaps the worst part of the school is its gym class, which has awful teachers, awful activities, and disgusting facilities. The food is a close second in badness. Its cold, nasty and overpriced for what they give you. However, the school does have a good drama department,m and an outstanding music program. The marching band has even been asked to preform overseas.
All the teachers are nice for the majority of them. The parents that dont have a good time with this school with thier education because thier son or daughter is not working hard. I have not seen one student that had a hard time with thier teachers unless they dont work. Parents will say that thier children are working hard but they are not.
My experience with West High School during the the late part of March 06 until Sept of 07 was very dissapointing. I have delt with two different administrations none of whom were interested in my sons education. Thankfully the new superindent values education regrdless of a students difficulties. On a positive note the High School Learning Center at CCC is a great program. I have a 7th grader who will be going to west in a couple years and I certainly hope they pull their act togerther for her sake.
West High School has gone backwards in many of its developmental areas. By implementing the IB program without any courses except for Regents courses, the school is setting itself up for a very difficult road ahead if the IB program fails.
I had two children that went to this school. I myself also attended and graduated from here. The teachers are caring and a great place to learn.
