This is the best school I have ever been to! It is like a private school. The kids there are great and the teachers are very interactive and caring. All the students at this school aim high to be the best academically. Truly, a wonderful environment for learning.

A top school. The school is academic focused. These kids are overwhelming college-bound. The extra curricular from music to science to robotics to community outreach to student government, drama and sports are encouraged by parent and faculty and actively engaged in. This is a school that encourages the highest performance in every student -- academic assistance is widely supported to those who need more support. The teachers do care -- but do not coddle the kids. The academic workload is there to help prepare them for success in high school (JFK) and beyond.

My seventh grade Triplet Grandchildren are doing very well in their classroom endeavors and still find time to enjoy music and team sports,(especially tennis for one child) and participate in Drama Club. The production of Willy Wonka last term was very professional. The teaching staff gives their all for the students. My children who attended Mattlin in 1970,1973,and 1976 formed life long friendships begun at Mattlin as did many children who grew up here in Plainview and chose to return as adults.

I agree with other responders that there is much to keep you busy at this school--too bad it isn't properly leveled- nor equitably challenging to offer a well rounded education for all. Most teachers are kind, but there is little supervision as to the worthiness of what they teach or how their classes are run. Excuses are abounding with little justification for many unprofessional incidents. Neither the parents nor the students are kept in the loop . Staff memebers who are kind, thorough, involved and effective are grossly unrecognized at both the school and district levels. Yet many others move only to collect their paycheck and show little regard for the impact their negativity and lack of teaching ability has on their students. Parents who approach the administration with questions, suggestions, complaints or comments are forever heralded as nuisances.

This is a great school. There are extracurriculars you can busy yourself with. As well as a great education system. There is extra help if you need it.

middle school and high school do not offer clubs or classes for those students interested in vocational pursuits --there is no support for interests outside of sports, language and science--there are no mentors for students whose interest are not typically college bound. Additionally, there is a lot of 'we don't teach that here' versus 'that sounds like something we could develop'--Students who reluctantly approach those in student government to suggest changes are put down and feel humiliated for their suggestions For a school district that commands a hefty school tax, there is much too much talk and promise and little delivery.

Most of the teachers are kind, but they challenge you. It really is a great, caring school.
