I think that Park Ave is a great school. They have a new principal that seems to have good leadership skills. The children are bright and caring and that's because most teachers go above and beyond. The only thing that needs to improve is the main office. The women that work there often seem annoyed and lack personality and charisma.

Very disappointed with the school. If almost 60% of the students are hispanic, you would think that majority of the teachers could speak Spanish. That is not the case here. The teachers are cold toward visitors and get frustrated with the students very easily, even though there are a few exceptions. The principal is two faced and will tell you whatever he thinks that you want to hear. He is quite hostile with the students and is rarely seen around the school. Overall, the school does not have the materials or resources that they need and is not an ideal atmosphere if you want a good education for your child.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 New York used the New York State Assessments to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English language arts and math, and in grades 4 and 8 in science. The results for English language arts and math are displayed on GreatSchools profiles and the science results will be added when they are released in the Fall of 2013. The tests are standards-based, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of New York. The goal is for 90% of students to meet or exceed grade-level standards on the tests.
