Absolutely the best elementary school in the poughkeepsie/wappingers area. I just hope they can give more attention to more advanced kids, like mine. It seems if your kids are ahead, they don't care so much. Instead they put enormous effort to help those who falls behind. I can't blame them for that but I wish they can help other kids too. All kids need help. We pay more school tax than maybe 95% of the families in this area, yet our kids are pretty much left alone. Sign.

Oak Grove Elementary is not only the best school in the Wappingers School District, but the one with the best caring teachers, and staff. Oak Grove is not only a place for our children to learn, but a place where our children are loved and cared . Mrs.Calvano, the nurse. Mrs.Betterton from the main office are just wonderful human beings.

My daughter entered Oak Grove 3 years ago. She was having trouble with her reading, writing and spelling. With the special programs (504 plan), offered by the NY State Education Committee and the professionalism and quality of the teachers, school psychologist and the principal at Oak Grove, my daughter has progressed dramatically and has exceeded my wildest expectations. She has been given the chance to improve and has had an increase in her confidence and her potential to succeed. I can not say enough about the staff that has helped my daughter. Thank you so much for all you have done for her!

I feel Oak Groove has a great program for special Ed students. The teachers there really care if a student is having trouble. They work with the parents to help the student learn and move up. The student is given every chance to suceed in school.

My youngest of three children just entered kindergarten at Oak Grove. I think that it is a positive, safe, and nurturing environment for kids. The principal is involved, and cares for each individual student. The staff is talented and loving. All around, a wonderful experience for my children and I.

About the tests

Beginning in the 2012-2013 school year, the New York State Department of Instruction implemented new assessments designed to be aligned with the Common Core State Standards. The new standards for proficiency in these subjects are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change. See this letter from New York's Commissioner of Education for more information on these changes.

In 2013-2014 New York used the New York State Assessments to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English language arts and math, and in grades 4 and 8 in Science. At present 2013-14 results are available only for English language arts and math. The tests are standards-based, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of New York. The goal is for 90% of students to meet or exceed grade-level standards on the tests.
