"...check on some of the inspiring stories by SUFSD graduates. Imagine one of these students filling out a job application/submitting a resume with your firm..." Yes, please do check on us. Our resumes include prestigious colleges and employment histories. We are, in general, a very bright group. I am proud to say I am a Spackenkill graduate, and that Hagan Elementary is where I began. While I have many Facebook friends who clearly do not have a grasp on the English language, none of them are fellow Spackenkillians. There was never a teacher sending home grammatical or spelling errors in my 12 years. In fact, I have a better understanding of grammar than my fellow Dutchess and Marist students did. My teachers at Spackenkill would not have it any other way!

I have nothing but good things to say about Hagan. Both of my children, so far, are having a great experience there. The teachers are wonderful, Dr. Sicina is great and the parents really add to the experience. We moved to the area for the school and other than the taxes, we have no complaints.

My son just started the Middle School after having a fabulous run at Hagan from K-5. I cannot say enough about the outstanding teachers there. They created the optimal learning environment filled with compassion and high educational standards. They also encouraged my son to be the best he could be and provided opportunities for him to stretch beyond where he thought he could go ( and they cheered him on all the way!). As a parent I firmly believe that the education of our children is optimized by the 'team' approach. I think the parents, teachers and student all need to work together. I have not one complaint about the teachers at Hagan. They were always the leaders of the team and helped my son to excel!! My son has had a great transition into 6th grade and I give all the credit to the team at Hagan!!

I currently have one child at Hagan and one child at Todd Middle School. Both of my children have had excellent experiences at Hagan. I cannot say enough about the teachers and their commitment to the children that they teach. I am fortunate that both of my children thoroughly enjoy going to school. I feel most of that has to do with the experiences that have provided to them by their teachers.

-Often letters, updates and documents are sent home with misspellings, improper grammar and punctuation. This is offensive to me as a parent and inspires little trust. It shows either a lack of knowledge or lack of regard for students; neither are qualities of a good teacher. If anyone wants to know how the teachers actually perform, check on some of the inspiring stories by SUFSD graduates. Imagine one of these students filling out a job application/submitting a resume with your firm, or worse-what if it was your child?

I am happy with my child going to school here. She is also going for private tutoring but not sure which is really helping her a lot. It should be both.

This school is a decent school for kids to learn. I did find that it seemed that they concentrated too much on preparation for standardized tests.

The leadership is poor and close to non exsistent in some cases. My son's teacher explained to me that close to 1/3 of the students were tutored outside the class room...most by the teachers themselves. Hmmm

This is our 2nd year at Hagan and it has been a great experience. Many parents are involved and the teachers participate in many extracurricular activities as well. It feels like a safe environment. My daughter was very happy switching from a private school to Hagan. My youngest just started kindergarten at Hagan and we are looking forward to a full education here.
