My son attends PS 18 and I have to say, he is very lucky to be part of such an amazing school! I frequently volunteer here so I see firsthand how the teachers interact with the students. The Principal is very involved even in small matters such as assisting teachers during dismissal and soothing children (knowing them by their name) when they come into her office if they are sick. The PTA is very active and there are many fundraisers held to support programs and events at the school such as monthly movie nights, festivals, holiday parties, science fairs and more. There is extra care taken in the safety of the children with regular routine procedures in place. The curriculum is strong and there is an active amount of tutoring given to students so no child feels left behind. I can go on and on about how happy I am with this school. Public School's are always downgraded when compared to Private School's but when you have a solid staff dedicated to their profession, our children benefit. The parents also have to get involved, and luckily in this school they do, The Principal, parents and teachers all work together to make this the great school that it is!
I am wondering this school student progress is "F", I would like to know how the school leader will improve it?
My son recently started Kindergarten here. The teachers, principal and the school staff is extremely nice and helpful. He loves it and the school environment is safe. The school welcomes parent involvement and the PTA is very active. My son's teacher kept my son interested by challenging him in academics. His reading and math level has progressed a lot. I look forward to send my younger son here too.
The school is very clean and I feel my kids are safe there. The staff and teachers work very hard to make it a great learning environment for my kids and I am very pleased overall. My son is in 1st grade his teacher is very through, she checks HW everyday & requires parents to sign off on the HW. I gotta say that putting my name on the HW makes me review HW more carefully. She also gives him the help he needs in extended day. He has significantly improved his reading skills and I am happy about that. The only issue I have with the school is that the class sizes are way too big, my daughter is in 4th grade and she has 31 kids in her class with no teacher helper. I just think that's way too much and there should be more of a push to reduce class size.
My daughter loves to go to her school. The teachers are too good. So are the other staff members. Ms. Bell my daughter's pre-k teacher is wonderful and my daughter mariya loves her..
It is recognized as one of the best school in District 26. The Principal (Ms.Joy Hammer) and teachers are very friendly. They take care of students very well. It also has very good and active PTA team. Unfortunately, I could not be a part of PTA.
The learning experience that my children have acquired from P.S. 18 is wonderful. The teachers are caring, as well as the principal and other staff. They really look out for the children.
