INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I'm a freshman at FHHS and so far its great! I'm in the Carl Sagan program and it reallyy challenges me to learn more, study more and try my best. There's a lot of students in the school, but the different school sessions make things a bit easier. The teachers that I have seem to enjoy teaching and most are passionate about passing down their knowledge of the subject to their students, which is greatly appreciated. Although, the process of buying lockers and gym uniforms has become a big hassle since the school store has apparently closed. It has already been more that a week and I'm still struggling to buy my things even though I try to go get them everyday!

Worst school ever! You don't get to play in the gym during lunch, way too many rules. They actually teach for about 20-30 mins because the teachers have to take attendance and check homework. They don't care who leaves the school or anything. I wouldn't even come here but my parents are forcing me.

I Just Graduated from Forest Hills High and it was the best 4 years of my life, because you meet the greatest teachers and you'll have friends who will stick with you through out high school. But my family is the music department! Those guys up there know how to have fun and teach at the same time! and if you're into music/singing/playing an instrument, the music department is the best place to be!

I love forest hills high school, because everyone is so open and loving there. The teachers are extremly helpful and never leave you on your own. The best thing about Hills, is that it's academically ahead of other local high school, such as Newtown, John Bowne, Flushing and many others. The actually school building is exquisit, expecially in the fall time. =)

Forest Hills High School has to be one of the best schools in the entire country. The students are excellent and mostly all of the students that attended that school graduated and are in college right now. The staff are amazing people to work with and the teachers are people who really care about their students' future. If I was the reader, I would definitely send my child to this school. Also, the children are very safe going to this school and tend to be on their best behavior. This school should be the top choice in a student's high school application.

My daughter graduated in June 2006. I found FHHS to be a great learning environemnt for her. She was in the Academy of Public Service program which alos included several community service projects in our community. Both she and I found the teachers to be caring and actively involved in the success of the students. The curriculum was challenging and demanding. She also had the opportunity to intern at a local hospital through her Anatomy and Physiology course. My daughter blossomed from a quiet student to Student Council President in her Senior year.

The music and art department are flourishing at FHHS and the new drama program is off to a great start. The school offers over 20 different Advanced Placement courses available for anyone who wants to challenge and prepare themselves for college. The student body is also very diverse, with many of whom go on to some of the world's most prestigious universities while also attending city schools. Many kids do not realize how great this school is until one discovers and compares it to other high schools in Queens and other parts of NYC. It is settled in a very safe neighborhood, with a beautiful campus, with a recently renovated athletic field. There are tons of different clubs, activities, and sports teams students can join. FHHS is getting better and better every year and it is apparent with so many prospective students vying for spots in this overcrowded school.

F.H.H.S. has been the best thing for my daughter who is now a senior. The music dept. is one of the best in the city, the teachers and staff of the music dept are what keeps my daughter in school & doing so well. Tell me how many 16 year olds have a last class at 1:50 pm and stay at school until 3:30- 4:00? The acedemics do challenge her, but F.H.H.S. has been able to keep her educated as well feed her passion for performance and music. Her goal is to one day teach music at F.H.H.S., what better review can there be?

FHHS is a decent high school with a tradition of excellence. Although the neighborhood demographics are changing and the era of dozens of Westinghouse winners per year, Simon & Garfunkel, and Ernie Grunfeld have long past, the school continues to draw aspiring students from immigrant families and zones with inferior schools. More recently, many of the older experienced teachers have retired, but the school has been reinvigorated with many smart young teachers. FHHS does not have the extra resources that are standard to specialized high schools, private schools, and suburban schools (e.g. arts and drama programs, athletic facilities). The school is crowded but orderly (with dozens of security guards and deans on patrol). Many of its graduates go on to college including a few to some of the finest in the land. The class of 2005 had matriculants to Harvard, MIT, Columbia.

FHHS is an above average NYC public school that is bursting at the seams. The fact that they do as well as they do is quite miraculous when you consider that the school was built for 2300 and holds more than 3600. There are many wonderful programs, but far too many students, therefore kids do not get the individual attention that they need.

I honestly have to say my daughter, had a wonderful school year in Forest hills, the environment is just so enriched and productive. I must say Forest Hills reaches it [defined] standards and has proven not only to be fit in education standards but socially for the students. The school has a lot to offer whether academically or physical activities or other branches of interests and talents. The kids are able to place themselves and get a feel of what different surroundings and changes are like.

Forest hills is one of the safer public schools in the area and really stands out when you compare it to other high schools with fights and cutting class. The professors are there to help the students and classes range widely in difficulty to help with strugling students. Students who attend are studious.

THis is my childs first year here and as far i see it its going good, there seems to be alot of peer pressure, but thats understandable in there first year of high school. The only thing i have a problem with is that the school allows their students to hang outside the building and smoke. This is a eyesore and something should be done about it

This school is the perfect school for a Russian Jew, because the entire school is basically filled with them, its cool though, nothing wrong with that i've been to three different high schools and by far Forest Hills was the nicest, safest, friendliest school i went to.
