I'm now currently in 8th grade and so far this school has been great. I've been in top classes all 3 years. There is now a new schedule change. In my opinion not the best idea. However it has great classes and good teachers I'm currently in Algebra 1 and Earth science which are 9th grade level classes. All u have to do is work hard and stay focused and you'll be able to thrive.

I went to this school 10 years ago, and I graduated to go to Stuyvesant High School and now am in the Macaulay Honors Program at Hunter College. Please take advantage of the afterschool tutoring, it is worth the time and other students I have met have paid thousands of dollars for the same education.

This school is the gem of the district without the lotteries. If you have a great foundation from elementary, you will have a challenging curricula in some of the homerooms. There is alot of homework especially in Math and Science which is excellent and other subjects are not neglected. My child was able to qualify to take the Hunter HS test from this middle school. The afterschool program is extremely popular managed by a dedicated staff. There is an afterschool dance program taught by a leading area choreographer/performer/ teacher who has over 40yrs broad based exp. , martial arts, sports, band, state of the art media... A great PTA which is imperative. There is great leadership and motivated teachers...really. If you are on top of your kid's game they are there to push the child to the capacity that you support. I can't say that about other schools/teachers in the district. Other middle schools in the district can use this one as a benchmark.

This is my son second year, he wil be going into the 8th grade...He was trying slip and all the staff.. Dean, Vice Principle, teachers, all stepped in and took immediate action. The staff is caring and responsible. The Sports and Arts program is excellent, Director and Staff, are caring and no- non-sense and expect the Best from the children in the program. The program is enriching and offers the children as well as parents many activities, after school and trips! Free Camp, what a Great thing, in today's economic time. Makes our children become well rounded and responsible individuals for our society. The school culture demands the children meet their highest potential and to be responsible for their actions and school life. It is a safe, enriching, no -nonsense school. I had my reservations at first, but there are no more.

Mr Gates, the principal has been a real asset to the school. He is a hands-on individual as he should be, the students know that he is about the busness of education and wil enforce it when necessary. The Sports & Arts Program had given my daughter may opportunities to become invovled in different activities with the emphasis on academics as criteria for participation.

I have been going to this school for 2 years and its fun. We have great teachers, fun trips and a lot of extra curriculums. Although we lost our Assisstant Principal because of the swine flu we are still surviving a great school.

My child was accepted into one of the most prestigious bording schools in New England with a full scholarship after attending Susan B. Anthony. I love the school and think the Principal Mr. Gates has been a great leader. The talented and gifted classes are top notch. My child had level 4s in ELA and Math.

IS 238 needs a forensic review. While there are some good teachers, many of the others teach outside their area of expertise. I do support inter/intradisciplinary teaching, but teachers should be licensed to teach in their content areas. After all, you would not go to a foot doctor for a problem with your heart, brain or eye.

They are very strict these days which I find good. I love that the school is usually very safe. The only thing is that my child is in top class but there are some very disruptive kids in there!

I graduated from this school 2 years ago. It may have seemed like a bad school but it was only a handful of kids that ruined it for the rest of us. I really enjoyed my time at this school and I had many friends and the teachers were so much fun and I learned a lot from everyone of them. The kids and the teachers at this school have so much personality. It's like we were all one big family. :)

tsk, tsk. The students should have some more attention toward their personal needs, and weaknesses. For years, the students have been cruel, sworn, received low grades, and many more bad examples. I am happy to say that the school is starting to gert better with their new principal, Mr. Gates. Still, though, I need some more testimony to beleive that this school is improved.

The school has an outstanding Principal who cares about the students. My child is in honors classes and takes a course, at I.S. 238 to prepare for the Specialized High School Exams. My daughter is achieving higher than ever before and I am thankful I made the choice to attend Susan B. Anthony.

I use to go to this school and I didn't like it too much. There's so many physical fights and they talk too much the class, even the teachers can't handle the students. The school transfered me to another school since i got the highest average in my class.

My daughter is an 8th grader who is very smart but is in a class were children cheat on test to make the grade and call her stupid for not doing it. the teacher are overworked and the class room size is to large for one teacher to handle. If you are a good kid but quite you get lost in. The school has a lot to offer if they could get the classes to a smaller amount. Whe my daughter first started it was great, but alast this is another sign of the times where our children suffer.

The teachers at the school are wonderful. They know how to have fun and know when its time to work. The cafetria can be a bit dirty at times. When a student is in trouble, a dean won't hesitate to grab a student by his arm and take him or her to their office. I always found the second and third floor to be the best ones. Tests and exams are never hard as long as you study. If a student is failing or endanger of failing, teachers offer students after school programs and extra work so they can pass that certain class. Some kids are mean and love to provoke other kids. There is'nt any outdoor recess anymore snice fight were taking place outside. Overall its a very good school.

All teachers are very cool. Every student could open up with each teacher about any matter. Classes are a breeze. Just as long as you don't hang out with the wrong crowd, there's nothing to worry about. Bad side: very dirty, even when 'clean.' Also, too many fights in every corner. I never had a problem because I was on everyones good side. Overall, it is an okay school. I genuinely loved the teachers, I just wish the kids weren't trouble makers. The lunch was alright, but not enough time to eat it because of overcrowding and long lunch lines. The music and literature programs were the best. Lots of contests, and rewards of $1 for good students (to be used at cafeteria for snacks.) I accumulated a lot of those 'Suzie Bucks,' and pigged out. Only people who can stay out of trouble should go there. They will succeed handsomely.

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
