Profile Completeness

ADVANCED

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

My 2 daughters go to this school. I sent them here because my brothers stepdaughters go here and I was told it was great. I like the school because there aren't a lot of students and it's a small building and because of the extra cirriculum. But what I don't like about the school is the bullying and how the teachers and staff don't seem to think it's a big deal. My 8 yo had a problem last year with a student and I made it clear not to have them in the same class again and this year they are back in the same class. I don't see why it's so hard to listen to parents. They do pta meetings so parents can get involved but if you're not going to listen then what is the point? Overall the school is good. I like that it goes from kindergarten to 8th grade. But the bullying has to STOP!

Bullies. Bad teachers. Students who are full of themselves. This is all I think of when I look back on my experiences at this school. I was miserable because I couldn't do as well as the teachers all pressured us to do. I was bullied for my looks. It's all about the popular and good-looking kids here. They get the most attention and help from teachers. Every other student who isn't as lucky gets neglected. I am happy to say that I have since moved and no longer have to attend this terrible, terrible school.

This school has taught me a lot. Yes , it provides a lot of intelligence for the students and extracurricular activities. But there are flaws. Some of the teachers are very kind and supporting, this helps a student feel comfortable . But there is some teachers whose behaviors are ridiculous. Some are very prejudice and judgemental. They also sometimes insult the student . I remember I would be afraid to go to class. Not only did I have to be in fear between the judgemental students , who bully you for sexuality or just by the way you look. But I had to fear some teachers. Even though I went to deans to consult these problems. All they do is give a lecture to the child and that's the end of it. The students continue to bully you. This school overall is good with its teaching professions. But the way students treat each other or the way some teachers treat the students is not acceptable. I'm very glad I don't go to this school anymore. All I can say is thank you for teaching me what I needed to know.

This is my son's 4th year here in p.s.113. I love this school!! I was nervous when my Don was entering 3rd grade because I though it would Be so hard for him. He had Ms. Kelly and has her again now in 4th grade. She is a fabulous teacher! I couldn't be more pleased!! My son is doing So much better since he has been with her. I wish she could be his teacher til he graduates!

This school SUCKS. The principal that took over after our last principal passed away is horrible. Learning used to be fun, now it's not. I used to look forward to coming to school every day. The teachers demand more out of students than they can really put in and constantly try to pressure us into trying harder. The lunch food is grotesque. I've found many things in it that I'm SURE aren't supposed to be in there. Students are rowdy and even after being disciplined, continue to bully and tease and misbehave. There are only afterschool programs for the students in middle school. All of the good teachers have either retired or left. Do whatever you have to do to keep your child out of here. Every single recent positive review is WRONG. I honestly can't wait to leave this horrible excuse for a school.

THIS SCHOOL IS A DREAM SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I recentley started going here and so far I am loving it! The teachers here are great! They are encouraging to students and belive the best in them. I aslo know that there are great programs like glee club and beautiful me. The cafetaria food is okay but I bring my own lunch from home, The hall ways are clean and shiny. If you are looking for a middle school or elematry school, P.S/ I.S 113 is the answer!

My oldest son is been there for four years now, and he just loves the school. He said that he wishes to be in no other place but PS 113. He loves his classmates, his teachers who are very involved and caring, and the new principal who's young and energetic. I believe that he's right, and I like the principal too. He's trying to bring in some changes, and to "speed up" a bit the rhythm there. Furthermore, he and his staff have to put up with older kids who are not very easy to deal with, since the school is now IS as well. That means that they got older students, grades 7th and 8th, and it is much harder to maintain discipline and high academic results now.

This is an excellent school with caring teachers and staff. It should have better parent involvement in the younger grades. The teachers strive for high grades and really support the children in there work. The principal and assistant principal are very approachable. Great school.

I attended this school during the 80's. I am so happy to read that it is as excellent today as it was back then. The teachers I had were involved, caring and encouraging. The atmosphere was relaxed and there was a charismatic and involved Principal (Mr. Gewirtz) at the heart of it all. Terrific experience! It's great to see that the culture there has carried on to today.

I looked for schools for my son when he was starting Kindergarten and came across ps. 113. I read all the reviews online and they reviews were all mostly good. It also happens to be my sons zone school. So I was pleased that he would be attending this school. I have to say that I am truly happy with this school, teachers & staff they really care. They have a wonderful way of teaching and getting the kids on board. My son is now in the 1st grade and has really blossomed, its amazing to see him excel. I hope his experience with his further grade teachers are as a positive experience as the last two years.

I do not have a comparison with other schools since this is my only experience so far with public schools (my child is in first grade). I cannot express enough my gratitude towards Mr.Pranzo and the entire staff at PS/IS113Q. It is a wonderful environment for children, strict but warm and welcoming, as school should be. My child is happy every day before and after school. The parent-teacher/school communication maintained via email is one of the few things that makes this school outstanding. There are workshops and science fairs, book fairs, trips, afterschool programs, dance programs, a Glee club, gatherings for parents and PTA, overall a great family environment for all of us to grow into. Thank you all!

I am a proud parent of 2 children that attend PS / IS 113. The teachers are fantastic! My children enjoy going to school every day. The do very well on the state exams and have good grades. I appreciate the constant communication from the Parent Coordinator keeping up to date on school activities. Our PTA also works very hard at fund-raising and giving back to the students.

This school is score oriented, not student oriented. They only practice for the state tests but they didn't augment the knowledge. Also it has almost no after-school activities and if there is, then its chosen by lottery. Plus this school has no recess at all. I believe that every single child should have recess if they dont even have a break between classes. I am very disappointed with this school. I am a former parent.

I love PS 113 because you can tell the parents and teachers care about the students. It feels like a tight community and we all have one goal and that is to put out the best, most considerate children.

I have a son & a daughter in PS 113 and think this school is great. They treat each child individually according to their academic level and help them reach and pass every goal given. The teachers are caring and understanding. The only thing missing is Art and more trips for the younger grades.

My Daughter went to PS113 from 3-5 and continued onto IS119 in Glendale. Due to her excellent education at PS113, she made it to the honors program at IS119 and as an honor student continued on to Townsend Harris High school and now to Columbia University. A Great public school who really help out their students. It was a great experience for her at PS113; I know we made the best choice for her education 113 has caring teachers, a warm environment and amazing parental involvement! Now my little one is going to attend kindergarten next year can't wait.

PS113 is a great school. I truly believe that Mr. Pranzo is doing an extremely good job and shows how important parent/student involvement is; he's extremely courteous and straight to the point, i.e. child's curriculum. Thank you, Mr. Anthony Pranzo....you truly are a godsend for caring so much for all these children!

My daughter enrolled in PS 113 during her 4th grade year and it has masde all the difference in the world. During her time at the school her grades have improved from solid 3's to solid 4's. She has access to dance programs, reading programs, math programs and more. Parents are extremely involved. I feel that this school is very organized and run extremely well.

Great school. Most of the teachers my kids have had have been good. Some teachers tend to push the students harder in their studies than others. The overall curriculum is good and it prepares the students for the standardized tests. PS 113 is one of the top schools according to the test scores. Their isn't enough of the non-study activities such as band, trips, etc. Though this is slightly improving. The principal is tough and runs a tight ship.

P.S. 113 is an excellent school for academics. Mr. Pranzo leads a very smooth operating school and one where students achieve high test scores. Much is being done to incorporate dance and art into the school. The parents at this school are very actively involved and there is terrific school spirit. My daughter loves attending school here. Keep up the great work, P.S. 113!

I think that the school it self having arrives at its high peak should now inolve itself more ito the children than the numbers
