Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

This school is devoted to the betterment of its students. The administration and teachers work hard to help students becomes better learners and citizens. 202 offers a variety of programs for all students including honors classes, regents classes, ESL Saturday classes, tutoring for state tests, a drama and band class, in addition to the many after-school sports and clubs. Both the drama and music classes put on spectacular performances throughout the school year. The school is also now in the process of forming a peer mediation program. The principal makes it a point to attend PTA meetings that take place once a month where students who have excelled in their classes are awarded. The school grounds remain a safe place for all students. The success of the school is evident in that students from 202 have been accepted into some of the best schools in NYC, including specialized high schools. Don't be discouraged by reviewers who had ONE bad experience and decide to slander the school because of it. 202 has been, and still is, one of the best middle schools in Queens.

My Grandson graduated from this school and he was able to get a good education. Ms. Nelson and all the 8th grade teacher are wonderful. My only problem with this school is the Principal and the 8th grade counselors. The are not concern with the best interest of their students but in advancing in their careers. Mr. Duffy is also ba great and dedicated teacher.

I go to this school and i am going into 7th grade doing great but the only problem here is the bullying. For example the teachers don't handle it the right and this kid but he doesn't do anything. Doesn't wear his uniform and the gym teachers let him use his phone in class and he just doesn't CARE. I am just saying this type of kid disturb the ability of others so maybe others are afraid for example THIS KID since i am not allowed to say his name he was T bagging my friend face down on the ground in gym class and the teachers DIDN'T CARE. We didn't help because he would of just got us and do it to us. Especially since i am in the ARP class ITS REALLY ANNOYING because these type of people don't care about the future. Just Make a guess what they want to grow up to be a drug dealer or someone working at McDonald or even a smuggler THINK OF THAT. Just think of that teachers.

this school is horrible!! WAY too much bullying and the uniform are far beyond a disgrace to mankind. the only event that your child will hyperventilate about is school ending. PLEASE save your sanity and DO NOT come here unless you are hoping your child will become suicidal.

I have 2 children in this school, one in 6th grade and one in her 2nd year of H.S. I have to say this school has done wonder for my children, My 6th grader has a learning disability, which obviously wasn't handled properly in her former school as she is now a straight A student, and my High Schooler just made the Arista program, the teachers are phenominal, the principals, Asst. Principals and Deans are really on top of things, I couldnt be happier with the progress my kids have made here!

I am an 8th grader at M.S 202 and I have to say I think it is a wonderful enviroment for us to learn in. Also, I hope to attend the highschool that has just recently been added, so if I didn't absolutely love the school and all of the welcoming teachers and staff, then I think I would not be staying in the same school. M.S 202 offers many different classes from ARP to Special Ed, each grade gets it own sets of assistant principals, deans and teachers but it amazes me how we all stay so close and commited to our work when everybody is getting there individual needs taken care of. It is truly a great school and I feel safe and secure every day that I go there.

What disturbs me is that every student posting here has no sense of spelling or grammar. That's bad press for the school no matter what good things they say. =/ What does that say about public education these days?

I am a student in the 8th grade and I'm happy that this is my last year here. I don't think that this school was too good at all. Throughout my years here, I have gotten many teachers that don't even like what they do and if you have a question they would get annoyed. Some teachers are very dedicated to their job, and love to teach. Also there aren't many activities at the school for the students. As many know, every student gets a laptop and many people get excited when they hear this, but half the time the laptops don't even work. Also the school is starting to get over crowed because they just added a 9th grade. Where are they suppose to put a 10,11,and 12th grade? I wouldn't recemmend this school to anybody.

My son is going into the 7th grade & I am very glad he is at theis school. The teachers are wonderful & Mr. Perez is the best. He makes a parent feel comfortable & tries to settle things as quickly as possible. My only grip about the school is no sports for the kids & the 6th graders did not get their laptops as promised.

MS 202 is really a wonderful school. I am a 7th grade student at this school. The school made a big turn around when Mr.Moore came and now it is one of the best schools. The teachers really understand the kids. The technology is amazing! The only thing that im concerned about are the laptops. Last year the 6th grade didnt get the laptops and this year only the 8th graders got them. Overall this school is great, i love it.

I would consider ms 202 to be one of the best middle schools out there. Was there for 3 years and i had the best teachers ever. They made learning fun. Also, the small things made even better. The kids were able to be on the nutrition committee to have a say in what we had to eat. Also, lunch was always free. We even get laptops. I've ever seen a middle school where each kid gets their own laptop to take home. Ms202......Two thumbs way up.

This school may be the best out there. I was in this school for 2 years. [6-7] In 6th grade I had Ms. Schoenman. She was a wonderful teacher. In 7th grade I had the best teachers ever. [Ms. Williams, Mr. Birgeles, Ms. Chauderry and Ms. Collymore] The best teacher has got to be Mr. Birgeles. He made learning fun. His voice kept me alive. He was a very fair teacher and kept his classroom full of learning. He used the techologies he had smartly. [Smartboard, laptop, projector] He knows what he's teaching! Mr. B is one of the best teachers in this school! He treats all his 3 classes the same no matter what level! This school is great but there should be minor changes. The physical fights should be handled better. However, this school has lots to offer. [Arista, drama, sports, etc....]

She has made a significance difference for my daughter ensuring a very valuable learning experience that will benefit her in her future academic endeavors. Is a teacher like Ms. Schoenman that make a difference in a childs life and I want to thank MS 202 for hiring such a wonderful teacher. Keep up the good work. Ingrid Rosado

Your information from DOE gives a student:teacher ratio of 19:1...my average class size is 34. You don't take the total student population and divide by the teachers...you MUST look at class size, not including mandated (Special Education) class sizes.

Middle School 202 has become one of the better Junior High School in Region 5 Thanks to the dedicated work of the staff including Principal William Moore. I give a special Thanks to Ms. Simeca and Ms. Grady for their hard work and dedication to the children. My daughter has thrived and improved under the dedicated teachings of the faculty. I hope that the inclusion program stays in the school system for those child who need the extra lift. I find that it is one of the best programs but the least that is bragged about. M.S. 202 best wishes keep up the good work, and many more improvements. Thank You Lisa Booth

This school has many continuing things that they need to work on. The positive thing that I have to say is that they have wonderful parent coordinator Judy Rea who has been in the school system for many years. In the middle school there are many challenges. She helped my son and I all year with different situations. She has not only given up her own time but she is a wonderful person and always puts children first no matter what the situation is. Anyone who knows her can see that she is an angel to all children. For this I have to say thank you very much.

The school is okay, they do have security guards but there still seem to be a lot of fights breaking out. Although at this age that also seems to be pretty common throughout middle schools. My daughter has been in an advanced class since she began and has done pretty well. She is currently in 8th grade and is in the ARP program and those teachers expect a lot of their students and make them work hard for their grades. I do believe that the school should have more clubs and sports available to the kids though.
