I think this school is o.k. for the average child. The curriculum is not challenging enough for gifted children. They are left bored and uninspired. The special education program is equally unimpressive. I think they just go through the motions. The families in this school are not the wealthiest and therefore most cannot afford a private education. So they settle for what they can get and make the best of it. It's a shame because the school has the potential for greatness but they seem satisfied with being mediocre.

I grew up in the West Irondequoit School District, attending schools there. The choice to locate back to West Irondequoit was an easy one, and we have never regretted a day of it. The teachers, principal and paraprofessionals at Colebrook and throughout West Irondequoit CSD are committed to student success, and will do what is necessary in order to ensure that each child succeeds. There may be obstacles along the way, and that is true with anything. However, we have found that with the decision to appraoch your child's learning as a team (with strong communication, advocacy, and participation not only from the teachers and school personnel, but also the child's family) that the outcome is achievable: A well-taught student who is not only academically, but socially skilled for the future. You can't ask for better than that.

We moved here from Maryland when our son was in first grade. Having come from a large school district the shock of a small neighborhood school was overwhelming! We knew within minutes that this was the best place for our children to go to school. The small classroom size and the amazing staff put our son at ease right away. The teachers are the best and the extra activities are just top-notch. Our daughter started Kindergarten at the new, just opened Colebrook and is so happy. I really cannot say enough about the faculty and staff at Colebrook.
