I attended this school in 95 and from reading these reviews i can see things Haven't changed. The teachers and staff were not helpful, they were doing it for a check. Everyday was a fight, i hated being patted down and going through medal detectors. This place was horrible i'm so glad i left NY years ago and my kids attend better schools NYC public schools are the worst, going to beach channel has made me hate urban school's. If you are thinking to send your kids their good luck

I am an alumni from this school. It was a good school. I just graduated from college and I still miss Beach Channel. It is up to us to succeed. Great teachers!

This is one of the worse high schools. Don't send you children here please not only will they suffer in education but also emotionally. This community is very uneducated. Sorry to say this but it's the truth. If you have to move here choose a private school

I wen to this school years ago. I returned because my nephew was graduating. I have to say it is not the same school I attended. It's depressing what it has become. I would not send any child of mine to this school. If you check out the ones who are in favor of this school, read their grammar and English skills. That is what the school is producing now. I'm pretty sure they are shutting down the school for poor performance.

im currently attending channel and i believe its a great school. It all depends on what you want to achieve in life. You will always have temptation to slack off but its always up to you to make the choice. They offer many opportunities and at the same time many risks, but that is life. To people who say that guards are rude, they are to rude kids. Every day the guards get disrespected by ungrateful kids ..wouldn't you do the same !!

as a alumni of beach channel this is a good school, eventhough they are a number of bad apples its pretty ok. they teachers look out for their students, because they want to see them go onto higher heights, but its up to the students to accept the help from them. i disagree with the person who said they don't care. u go into the school afraid not knowing what is going to happen that day.

This school was horrible. The lack of respect that the students have how rude the guards are. All this school has done is made me angry bitter and racist.

I m a current student at beach channel and I wouldn't recommend anyone send there child here children are not safe here there are fights every day the staff are rude the most of the teachers don t care if the students pass or fail that is shown by the low test grades the large number of kids that don't graduate on time and the kids that drop out .

My daughter is a junior at Beach Channel high school and is very happy. The teachers are professionals and willing to go the extra mile to help their students. The principal and parent coordinator are pure gems, other staff members should take their example. The school lacks parent involvement, a website, SAT prep classes. Yes, the school can be disorganized at times but it lacks staff and parent volunteers.

My child is a sophmore on the Honor Roll at BCHS and is very happy there. As a parent, I would like to see more Challenging school work and Smaller classes. Some of the courses she is taking in BCHS, she has taken and passed regents in Middle School. I understand that teachers must spend time with the students who do not undertand the subjects, but I would like to see Advanced classes for students that have proven that they have mastered the subject. I also feel that parent Involvement would help this school tremendously. Parents Should Not critisize the school if they are not being a part of their childs education.

This is my first experience with the school and I expected more. Instead they was a big run around, time lost from work and stress for our entire family. Not only is it not organized, but the security lacks professionalism and need customer service training. I asked a simple question to a guard and received an obnoxious response. I had to set the person straight as I am not one of the students there and judging by observation, there is little or no respect toward the teens attending this school. If this is how they work with children, then it is no wonder that kids don't have respect. Perhaps my feelings will change in the future and I could consider this experience as the result of 'back to school week'. I hope so, or I'll have to transfer my child out.

I think this is very unorganized. They mess with the students programs and put them in a great deal of stress I would not recomend any parent to send their child to this school.

This school has a lot to offer. From the many programs such as computer, business, architecture, as well as many sports and extra currecular activities. Turtoring is offered afterschool or on saturday as well. What is lacking is parent involvement. I attend the pta meetings and it is a sad site to see for a large school parents do not attend this informative meeting.

As a former Student, I have to say I dreaded going to school. I never felt safe going to school, the security guards that were suppose to be there to protect the students, were acting as if they were best friends with the student, which I believe to be very unprofessional. The school was very unorganized, some of the staff members were very unpolite, and overall the quality of the school is poor. Sadly, it shows within the test scores of the students and the percentage of students that graduate from the school.

basically what i am implying is that the school doesnt run on its own merit,it runs on the attitudes and willingness of the children and their parents..perhaps the parents of the problematic kids should take a look at thir kids and not send them to bchs.i feel that we were all judged just because of a small group of kids..th e teachers work their behinds off trying to improve grades and better the students however the parents dont make much initiative.the principal has been the longest principal there since 2003. i think hes doing a great job...the safety could be worked on. the security guards have little to no respect for the children perhaps this is the reason why the students dread coming to school......

Beach Channel h.s. is a great school, teachers are willing to do their job, they have so many sports and extracurricular activities for students, like football, soccer, baseball, softball, tennis, basketball, honors program, chess club, key club, after school/saturday tutoring for students, and many more. The only thing that school needs is more parents getting involved in their sons/daughter's education because the teachers are there to teach the students what they are suppose to learn, not what they suppose to learn at home which is BEHAVIOR. My daughter goes to that school and her average is on the 90s. If us the parents would get involved in our sons/daughters education there wouldn't be any bad schools.

the school is good, it has so many programs to choose from, i really don't know why people think is a bad school the teachers are the best, i'll be graduating from that h.s on june 2006 with honors and i'm proud of it. It's just an high school like any other and don't get fool by what other people say, the just say the bad things about it, but they leave out the most important thing about the school which is the teachers, academic programs from typing to, to business,to achictecture, and let me not even talk about the extracurricular activities because there are so many that i wouldn't end. Beach Channel for me is the best school ever!

I think the school gets a bad rap; the students get a bad rap. The local paper, The Wave, only reports negative incidents. They rarely provide the community with any insights on student achievement, activites, the inclusion of two other schools in the building... The community cannot know a school, unless the paper reports a balanced view. The kids want to learn... That cannnot be ignored.

Law Center, Crew, And unique location on the Bay, are some positives about this school that come to mind. Committed teachers can make the difference, as can community support and involvement.

Beach channel is an overcrowded school and they did not need to add a school to a school. the programs that are offered seem to be ok. they definately need for security in the lunch room and other areas of the schools. they also need more security cameras around the building. they need to teach classes on respecting each other. their language and overall attitude of the students is terrible. they have lack of respect and some do not want to be there. academically it needs some help there. graduation rate is not the greatest at all. not sure of the parent involvement. they do not have many activites for them. overall my son is in the honors program and one of the top 10 so he is learning so I cannot complain about that.
