Rocky Point High School

We are delighted in the direction the district is heading. They've done a quality job.In the wake of mass layoffs and budget cuts in MP and SWR. RP is looking strong right now.

Deciding on Rocky Point as a place to raise our children was no easy matter. We looked everywhere for what we felt was well balanced and the best overall quality of life for our two daughters. Our fundamental criteria s were education, recreation, cost of housing, taxes, and of course, the right fit for our two daughters. So far, our experiences with the teachers have been outstanding; they have a wonderful ability to interact with the children. My oldest looks forward to going to school, the youngest is still in Child Care. Rocky Point is actually not a small school district, but it gives you the feeling of being small and personalized, with high quality staff and great education, small class sizes, and plenty of attention to the individual. My wife and I are happy with our decision with this school district. All of these qualities described above, make this school an intelligent choice for our family.

Were very happy with the new direction Dr Ring is taking the school in with a focus on AP. What I will say for the school is that there is a high level of parent/community involvement and a solid School Board in place.I really feel like RP is gainimg ground on MP and SWR and is doing it for le$$.90% Regents graduates is fairly impressive and on par with the neighbors.The one area that hurts RPHS is % of 4 year college.Many here go start out at 2 year or go into trades/family businesses.Nothing wrong with that at all.Very happy thus far.

I am a former student and feel that I had a very positive experience in the Rocky Point High School. Teachers were always there to lend a hand to anyone. Every school has their 'bad' teachers, but I feel that this school has a strong faculty. They work together and care for students. If I could, I would go back for another 4 years. The way kids behave is a direct result of parenting, not teaching by faculty! So, with that said, get involved in your child's life and he or she will undoubtedly have a positive and knowledgeable experience at RPHS. I'll stick up for Rocky Point anyday...not only me, but many others I graduated with 3 years ago loved it there. Always will.

As a senior student of the rocky point high school, I can say that from my own experience, RPHS is one of the last places you would want to have your children educated in New York. From my experience I am quite satisfied with the teachers - for the most part. Others lack the ability to discipline, and in more than one case, educate their students properly. To say this is entirely the fault of the staff would be an outright lie. Rocky Point's school district has had the misfortune of attracting a plethora of unruly, rude, and to be frank 'bad' attendees. There are plenty of extra curricular's to take advantage of, sports will almost guarantee you an easy road to graduation via support from teachers, staff, and students. Regardless, don't expect to learn much.

This school has changed my childs look on the world. All 3 of mine use to be very happy and never got in trouble. Now that they have gotten oss and iss for everything they have been cursing me out and i think 1 of them is now wanting to move away. My honest recomdation is not to send your you child to this school.

Very nice town to grow up in. There are good and bad everywhere. You must be involved with your child's life. I have met many caring teachers and parents.

Im a student at RPHS...honestly worst school, no joke. if you fail, you fail teachers dont care but if you play sports and are good, you run the school. rocky point has become a jail. everywhere you go you need a hall pass and you get questioned 50000 times before you get to take a pee. rocky point doesnt care about the well being of students they think OSS and ISS is the answer for everything. its all about salary for superintendents and teachers. they dont care about the students, alls they care about is their paycheck. this school is TERRIBLE.

Honestly, academics are a joke here. My child is an honor student, and is so behind my nephew who is not an honor student, but in private school. My nephew has learned things my child hasn't. I was amazed hearing them talk about what they were learning at a family function, or should I say what my child wasn't learning! Not only are they behind in academics, but these kids walk around with no control, and no respect for the teachers. I agree with the other person who said their child watches videos in class. My child told me the same thing. The only time they actually teach is to cram for the state exam! I'm very unhappy with this school!

Rocky Point High School used to have a great reputation. I think it has failed our district as of late, and I think this school needs an overhaul. Our elementary schools are exceptional, however, the High School is another story. Teachers don't teach, they show videos during class time. Student bullying is out of control. I do not want to send my younger children to this High School, and will move when it's time to do so unless things change by that time.

School has expanded and has increased programs. I graduated in 99 and it was not what it is now. Was far inferior to other local schools.

Some of the teachers like Mr. Brons are really caring but others don't even return repeated phone calls or respond to messages sent. Same goes for the guidance counselors. I am moving our of state due to the tax hikes in the school district and the poor response I have had from teachers in the school. Long Island schools have lost my respect.

I'm not a parent of a student who attends Rocky Point High School. I am a student there going into tenth grade. I really think highly of my school, even though most other students see it as a small, pointless school. I think the clubs and activites are amazing. Especially Be A Nicer Neighbor, how much it is involved the community. I play field hockey, basketball and softball. We don't win very often, but we work together so well as a team. We're just out there to try our best and have fun, which is the most important thing. All of my teachers and coaches always try their best to help me improve at everything, and offer extra help if I you need it. I play the clarinet in the band; we have an excellent music program and are well known, as we perform and have performed at Shea Stadium's Opening Day for the last 20 years. We also perform at Hofstra for a Newsday Festival and march in New York City for the Labor Day Parade. I am a member of the National Junior Honor Society and am proud to mention all of the wonderful things we did for the community, such as: a book drive for needy families around Christmas, a Halloween festival for younger children, a Christmas breakfast, and served icecream at an awards ceremony. I like Rocky Point High School because since it is a small district, it is easy to become involved with your community, people around you, and activities in the school. The school is kept clean, which also makes it a very enjoyable place to do my school work. The school is rapidly growing and a new school was even opened last September. Rocky Point High School is now only 9-12th grade. I will be happy in three years when I graduate, but I will always be proud to announce that I attended Rocky Point Schools.
