Caroline Street has been absolutely wonderful. It is a fabulous school with incredibly high standards, great teachers and most importantly, really, really happy kids. We are very fortunate.

Our experience with Caroline St. Elem. has been an amazing one. My son is in Kindergarten & his teacher is Mrs. Speranza. She has been the most positive influence on him. He's always been into reading, but her learning & teaching skills are so fun for the kids. That they are so interested & excited to learn more. We just love her! She is such a "Wonderful" roll model for an "Excellent" teacher. We can see such a growth in his math & reading skills, it's AMAZING! Thank you Mrs. Speranza & Mrs. Farone. It's not a very big school but that's what is great. Our class has 16 kids, a perfect ratio. The principle is always around & greeting everyone. It's a very friendly, community involved & quaint school. We love Caroline St. School. And will miss Coach!

The Teacher to student ratio is amazing. There is plenty of one on one time, that is lacking in many schools.

The PTSO at Caroline Street is extremely impressive, funding many, many extracurricular activities not seen elsewhere in the area. The PTSO bought the rock wall in the gym (this is for elementary school kids!) My experience has been very positive with teachers and staff, and my child loves it.

About the tests

Beginning in the 2012-2013 school year, the New York State Department of Instruction implemented new assessments designed to be aligned with the Common Core State Standards. The new standards for proficiency in these subjects are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change. See this letter from New York's Commissioner of Education for more information on these changes.

In 2013-2014 New York used the New York State Assessments to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English language arts and math, and in grades 4 and 8 in Science. At present 2013-14 results are available only for English language arts and math. The tests are standards-based, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of New York. The goal is for 90% of students to meet or exceed grade-level standards on the tests.
