As a retired educator, I can easily recognize quality teaching, individualized attention to students, teacher expertise and enthusiasm and a positive, warm school environment. SLCS posseses all of these qualities. Students who want to learn, no matter what their abilities, can be well prepared for college or a trade through the courses provided at the school. I rate this school as excellent! The new additions of a gym and science labs enhances the school further. 2/28/12
i LOVE my school!!!! because its so small we all get more time with teacher. and no, we dont have a huge auditorium or grandiose musicals or even great jocks and cheerleaders but i believe thats what makes our school so great! were all equal but where all unique! the myth of poular vs. geek dosn't breath in our school its choked away by friendly teachers a great curriculum and amazing leadership! our athletic program has just been updated with the addition of our new gym. and i have been in many schools but our teachers are soo involved in the overall aspect of our lives we are all kept accountable! i love this school and thank god for it continually!!
The teacher student relationships in this school are perfect! This school is small so the students can recieve more one on one time withthe teachers. Our building needs help but we just passed the budget to fix the repairs and get a better gym. of course there are problems but what school dosen't have peoblems? Not every teacher is perfect but life is never fair! Our teachers do the best they can with what they are provided. - 3 members of the senior Class of 2009
I love this school. The relationships between student and teacher is amazing. All my teachers were there when you needed help and would stay after school if you needed it. I dont think my parents would of chosen a betterschool. They too graduated for SLCS. ~Cassandra Bessey '07
The parent involvement is slim to none. The current PTSO tried their best to get their active membership levels up but they were given a bad rep from the time the officers took over for the ones who had run things for 17 years. Discipline is not doled out fairly, and not often enough. The teachers don't reprimand the kids for being disprespectful to them even if it is for calling them by their first name instead of Mr. or Mrs. The school was built in 1935 and I am sure that back then it was state of the art but now it is falling apart. The janitorial staff are only there to collect a paycheck . There are not enough class rooms so some classes are taught in the hallways, especially to special education needs. This is why I am moving my children away.
I think that Scroon Lake Central school needs a lot of help. So many aspects of it are failing our children, it is a shame that in this quaint small town we cannot have a superior school district. We are lacking artistic programs for our elementary grades, and after school activities are none existent. We desperately need a Pre K to move our children along at a competitive rate with other schools.
This was one of the best schools I have ever attended, it is small, but I learned so much. This school has some of the very best teachers in the world! -Justine Hurlburt
