Smithtown Elementary isn't just a great school, it is a wonderful community. The faculty, children and parents inspire a true "we can do anything together" spirit. The school stretches the students in their studies... and strongly encourages family involvement in order to create the ideal learning environment. We are proud to be part of this wonderful educational institution where children thrive, teachers grow, and parents are inspired.
My sons went there many years ago and received a fine education from very caring teachers. It's reputation is excellent
The teachers are excellent and the Principal is outstanding. The only set back is the school doesn't have an programs to offer children that are academically advanced.
Smithtown Elementary's success is contributed to the commitment from our principal, Mr. Graf, his staff and parents of Smithtown Elementary. This is truly a 'children's school' filled with the pure innocence, intelligence & good manners of today's elementary children. We're like one big family.
I am very happy with the education my children have received from Smithtown Elementary. I have two that have graduated and 1 graduating next year. Mr. Graf is an excellent principal and is involved in all aspects of the school. He knows every child and they know him. Not because they misbehaved but because he makes himself visible. He is involved in their everyday learning. The children love school and the teachers seem to love their jobs. The only thing that does interfere with the childrens overall learning is the emphasis put on taking the state tests in 4th and 5th grade. I believe that too much time is spent getting ready for these tests and it creates alot of anxiety within the classroom. The teachers are pressured into teaching new material way to fast and the children are the ones to suffer.
Very satisfied with the quality of education, teachers are young, bright, and are still enthusiastic about providing a quality education. Children are not just 'pushed through'... The school systems bus policy can get annoying. Another small peve is that it seems the teachers dont give too much advance notice when children are required to bring in items to class. Ex: supplies, money for field trips, etc. However, there is much advance notice for big school projects and their due dates. The school is going through a construction phase/refurbishment to acommodate more children. As a parent I feel the school provides a good balance between music, arts, and sports acompanied by a solid education...
