So I read these reviews and say to myself "how bad could it be"? I enroll my son and he starts school...everything is great....for the first week at least. Don't get me weong, they will get an education but first a few gripes....first of all where is the playtime at lunch?? They get to WALK around....Please Mrs. Deluca, clean out the parking lot in the back and let the teachers park in the street and let them run around like kids as they do everywhere else!! This isn't a prison for crying out loud. Afraid they will fall and get hurt? Do what they do in other schools and lay rubber squares on the ground....Have a fundraising and get the parents to chip in, I'm sure they will not complain. Also, way to many rules at lunchtime...let them relax a bit and clear out their heads. Also if you are going to keep the kids in the auditorium in the morning have all the teachers come in earlier..there is almost no supervision down there!! All the teachers come down right before they go up....when they line up outside in the parking lot there are teachers that drive into the lot when the kids are there.....lastly the backpacks are sooo heavy, save your money for a chiropractor!!!
Please let the children be children and be allowed to socialize with each other. I find it appalling that the children are not allowed to talk at lunch, instead they are told to bring a book to read. This school needs to be reminded that "all work and no play made Jack a dull boy". Please give these poor kids a chance to remember their childhood with fond memories of OLPHCA. The principal seems like a nice person. Most of the teachers seems ok, however some of the aides leave much to be desired. They yell loudly at the children and would rather talk about them than help them.
My son attended there for kindergarten and that was enough. The school is grossly overcrowded. The teacher's aide can be heard yelling at the kids from outside and the teacher allowed it. During the school year, there was an incident that would make every parent scared to send their child to school (the police were called for threats against the students!!!). Needless to say I was never informed of this incident by the principle, I had to hear it from another parent. When the principle cannot communicate to the parents about a potential violent incident I have a huge problem with that. I was recommended to this school by a trusted friend. Even she pulled her child out of the school because of dangerous issues (bullying, labeling, physical harm etc) her child encountered.
I had a child attending this school for a while and i was not to pleased with the patience the school shows toward some of the students. If you are a parent who can volunteer to stay in the class with your child then by all means do so. if you cannot then be careful if you dont have a perfect child.
As per the previous poster, the school does have a bit of issues. not the worst. but far from the best. i pray things begin to improve again. thank you for the email and good luck to you. i will do the same and encourage others to use the social networks available to them.
One word sums up what the leadership of this school embodies and that is INCREDIBLE, she is devoted to the educational growth, the spiritual growth, social growth, and intellectual growth. It is evident that she loves what she does and loves the children that attend this prestigious institution of learning. This school thoroughly prepares it's graduates for high school, college, and life beyond. It's only short comings are the size of the school. If the school had more space it would have lockers and a cafe as another parent suggested. I will continue to highly recommend this school to any one seeking a grade A education for any child in a welcoming and safe environment.
I do recoment this school to any of my friends and family ,the school program is very extensive and the great!. they really put the students to work hard in their homework and projects.I have my son since Pre-k now he is in 1st grade he has learn a lot.
I'd totally agree with the previous posting & add that it's headed by one of the most caring, righteous and understanding principals I've ever met. The open door policy is key. Somehow she's able to address all issues of concern. There are at least 7 educators that are creative, hands on learning advocates, whom I appreciate, the 8th grade team is strong in preparing them for HS. However there are a few who are strong to label a child's behavior instead of defining it and the sarcasm has to go. It's simply is not necessary.
I would say that Our Lady of Perpetual Help School is one of the best schools in Queens. It is neat, clean, and the kids are well disciplined. Most of the parents are very involved in the curriculum, and school projects. The school also en-force's no bullying. The principal Ms. De Luca is also wonderful and understanding. I do think however that the teacher's should be less judgmental about the students in regards to personal issues, and should reinforce positive learning. They also should have lockers for the children because all of the children have to carry huge backpacks with loads of books in them. I am personally concerned about their backs and spinal cord injuries when they become adults. Some one should donate lockers for the children. The children in grades 5-8 would also benefit from a socialization period which would involve exchanging notes, educational discussions, wi-fi, and a student lounge. They also offer school lunches that are from the public school, but many students would prefer a small cafe that would allow them to buy burgers, fries, pizza, healthy drinks, etc. My son has been going to the school for the past two years, and has an overall good average.
This is one of the best schools in South Ozone Park, NY. The Principal is lead by God and it is one of the best. She is not only a Great Principal she is a second mother to our children and a great mentor.
It's a wonderful learning environment for all children. My daughter has truly found a great place to learn. I recommend it to all my friends.
I really love OLPH. I've been going here since the kindergarten and i had awesome teachers. there are only a few extra curricular and i think we need more. I am only involved in the band. I am also in the student council. I have met many friends at OLPH that I'll stick with forever. My teachers are very nice and caring and they devote themselves to each one of us. They treat us like we're all different, because we are.
i love this school. you enjoy the people. youre friends and everything there is ahmazing. something times are hard but when arent times hard? olph allowed me to score a 99% on my social studies state exam and 90s in the others. when you leave this school youll realize how much you miss it and how great it is there. the teachers teach well and make it fun too.
This school is the greatest schools. I have been to many different schools before but none of were as good as OLPH. The school is clean, students are well disciplined and the teacher do a really good job teaching us. I am an honor student graduating this year from OLPH. I can say the experience I have had in this school was really great and I would recommend you to send your child to OLPH.

I love this school. It is a really good school and the teachers do whatever they can to help the kids.
My daughter is currently in her second year at OLPH. The teaching is great, the kids are really taught to excel. However, as someone else stated this is a family affair - I have no problem with that, as long as the kids are treated fairly. Too much gossipping. Also, some of the teachers need to have their pople skills updated , we are living in a modern age - they need to learn different ways to encourage the kids to learn. Not all kids are the same. The kids need outlets for their energies - instead the teachers are indicating that your kids may be ADHD. Deal with the kids - We as parents are paying a lot of money to send out kids to private school. Loosen up - some of you. Ms.DeLuca you are wonderful.
I am currently attending Our Lady of Perpetual Help school and I just wanted to thank all of the teachers who take their time out of their lives to take care of us in every way. I am so glad that my parents are sending me to this school. I have met the greatest people here. The teachers are wonderful and the principal is the BEST!
