My child attended Knox during his last two years of high school. The security and the rules have definitely polished my son's behavior. He came back and started to show humble, responsible character. I had never expected that Knox has an impact on children other than their academic performances. The campus is absolutely gorgeous with a beach towards the end of the hill. Girls have sea-view dorms! Knipe cottage has recently been renovated and it looks absolutely amazing. All that is left is improving the boy's dormitories. The library needs a little work as well. But hey, Knox is working it's way! Keep up the good work Knox!

This school has the potential of being great, however in the 6 years that I have been associated, (as a parent), with Knox it has missed the mark every time. The board has made very poor choices in Headmasters. They have gone from bad to worst! The faculty is overworked and although many are extremely competant, they cannot be effective educators because they are so over extended. Because of this, very few faculty members remain. Tuition is high and the buildings, especially the boys dorms are in poor shape and it appears there is no plan to remedy this. I have issues with the cleanliness of things as well. There has been an ongoing problem with mold and flea and bedbug infestations. I hope someday they get their act together because as I said, this has potential!

I once attended Knox in my senior year. It really helps relieve the stress of going into college and the teachers and students are all quite nice.

This is a great place for students! Each students gets the attention they need while getting the freedom they want! You have got to look at this school for your child!!!

Knox is so beautiful and well maintained. 95% of the kids who go there are extremely nice, and good to each other. It is very much like a big family. It is well managed, and when there are problems they are handled appropriately. It is an honor to have a child attend such a fantastic school, and I wish we had found it sooner. I highly recommend The Knox School, and you would be wise to visit and see for yourself, if you are looking for a top-notch college prep school for your child.

The knox school is poorly maintained and neglected. Even the paths are choppy and chipped. As far as the school administrators are concerned there is a major lack of communications between administration and parents.

My Daughter attended The Knox School in the 10th grade. We were advised that Knox could meet her required needs and were referred by our Public School and a qualified child psychologist that this was the best placement for her special education needs. The experience was wonderful the first year when Mr. & Mrs. Brown were headmasters of the school. The administration, quality of academic professionals went completely downhill for her last remaining years. The school does not have qualified Teacher's or administration staff to address a student with special needs or the appropriate curriculum for the 21st century. The students do not get what they need to prepare for college as a 'College Preparatory School' Ultimately the school did the very same thing as public school had done, which was to pass her through without academic achievement. I would never recommend this school.

My daughter attened knox. She was so excited to go to the school at first but soon after we realized what it was really all about. The school is just like a very small comunity, everyone talks, but in this case it is not the students. Also there are not many electives at all!

School has changed administration and I find new headmaster is not as good as the last, does not communicate with parents, also school discipline at times is not fair...school has potential if they used the endowments wisely to upgrade the classrooms, hire qualified teachers and form relations with the parents...

My child attended Knox, althought I found everyone to be friendly, I feel we were greatly mislead. The programs promised, the education promised etc, never came to pass. I didn't think to ask at the time about the quality and education levels of their teachers,I found out too late. Keep in mind that this school does not follow or offer any programs or requirements that your district school is required to. Keep this in mind, as it will save you and your child a lot of headaches if you do not graduate from Knox. We learned that the hard way as well. I have the feeling this was once a fine school, but if I had to do it over again there is no way I would put my child in Knox. Lack of communation, lack of rules that apply to all students, just to scratch the surface.

My child is a boarder in this school and was very hesitant to leave home at first but opted to go to The Knox because it offered a small school environment with a close knit community. The school and the administration have surpassed this expectation and more. My child and I are very happy with The Knox experience. Of course the school may not be in the Top 7 elitist schools but it is a jewel on LI.

Beautiful campus on Harbor in St. James, New Middle School Head and Upper School Head very structured. Sports program is booming this year. New athletic director. The children are very accepting of each other. Its like a big family. My child is having a great year. Many improvements.

This school has unlimited potential. Unfortunately, the administration is weak and fails to communicate with parents and teachers.A much neglected campus is causing safety issues for students and faculty.

This school could be a great school, but it lacks orgnization and communication in all areas of the school. If I had another child entering the Knox School age this would not be a consideration!

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
