Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I have to respond I the parent that said it's who you know in the school that gets you recognized. I'm sorry but I greatly disagree. My kids and I came into the school not knowing anyone but through my parental involvement and my kids working hard to be good and respectful students we became a part of a great community that feels like family. So get involved talk to the principal talk to the PTA at PTA meetings if your not happy but don't put down a great school if your not being proactive and doing something about it other than giving it 1 star and saying it's a bad school. I challenge you to find a public school in the area that's better.

I found P.S.35 to be very welcoming! The staff are excellent. The Principal knew my daughter's name by the second day of kindergarten! I am welcome to help out in the classroom anytime I'd like. The work is rigorous, but school goes out of it's way to support students that need help. My daughter love it. I feel like it's a private school that's free. BTW, I am an elementary school teacher myself, so I really know what I'm looking at. Go Bees!

Love how parents in here posted that this school is a closenit school. Yeah right it's who you know how you know them. If you are an outsider of this little click you are in big trouble and its fend for your own child. There should be no favoritism in this school but every year I see the same students getting acknowledged for the same awards and ect. What about the other 280 kids in the school. The principle always says she runs a tight ship news flash this is not a ship but a school. Open up your eyes people!

Great school for my kids, I do wish they had a better yard for the kids to enjoy. The teachers are wonderful and the PTA does a great job.

My son's school is nurturing and I feel the teachers are helping him with developing the skills he will need to succeed once he leaves this school. His teachers are involved and are always available if I have any questions or concerns. My son is happy going into school each morning which is all I can ask for. I wish there were more after school activities but besides that I'm very happy with his school.

A great small community school with a small student-teacher ratio. It has principal with an open door policy that is always available to hear any concerns you may have and answer any questions regarding your child's education. Very involved PTA adds to the feeling of a connection between the educators and parents. leads to the success of common goals.

This school has an amazing community of parents and teachers. Not all parents participate, but the ones that do take the time to know all the children and help them. The teachers welcome parent involvement and encourage visits to the class to read or help with projects and parties.

I think the school is wonderful. The lessons engage the students while helping them to exel in the new common core standards. This year they have started grouping students. I think it can only help. The students that may be a bit above average will be with "like minds" and can all learn and be challenged as a group. While the children that tend be "middle of the road" will have the opportunity to be the "stand out" in their class and the children that struggle will have ample time to "get it" because they will be teaching to a whole class instead of having just a few minutes to explain. The parent base in the school is very strong and the PTA is very involved and always plans great events for both the students and their parents. As far as improvement, more enrichment programs need to be put in place.

This is a great school. Everyone is like family, so not only do you feel your child is really cared for but the get the best care as possible. This school wants as much for the kids as possible. With some financial help the kids would benefit in various ways. Though its great here I know it will just keep getting greater.

I feel very lucky to have my daughter enrolled in PS 35. The staff and principal are all sweethearts they all care for the kids as if they were their own. They know each child and are very accomodating with drop off and pick up. I have my 2 nephews and neices and we all think they are amazing!!!

Unfortunately, PS 35 seems to be coasting on the great reputation it acquired under the previous principal, but in fact it has become a haven for mediocrity and petty intolerance. The school's motto, "Kids Come First," has become hypocritical, and the reality is that the administration and teaching staff (the ones we have encountered, anyway) are far more concerned with their own assessments than with the well-being of the students. The school's attractions are its small size and safety, but these are offset by the patronizing and hostile attitudes we have experienced.

I jump the gun by writing this review, since my son just attended the kindergarten three weeks ago. So far I have liked the school. The principal, the teacher, and other staff members are professional and caring. Previously I got an impression that students at NYC s public schools do not have to study that much. It turns out to be wrong. My son has homework to do every day, which pleasantly surprises and occasionally overwhelms me. I am optimistic that my son will get a well-rounded education at P.S. 35, whose motto is kids come first!

My daugther is leaving PS 35 we had a wonderful 6 years at PS 35. We would love to thank Mrs. Wehner for an excellent last year at PS 35. I would of like to see a little bit more done for the 5th grade students, but academically this school is exceptional and we will miss it!

The school is slowly improving in its enrichment programs. Ms. Garafalo aka Longobardi has begun an after school music program for the students and is planning to continue this program next year as part of the regular program of the school. I am glad that the school is finally enriching the children's academic life so that they can become well rounded individuals. I adore P.S. 35. It isn't perfect but what school is. As part of the P.S. 35 community, we should all be pro active about the issues that the school will face, instead of complaining about it all the time. This is a public school. Get involved. Volunteer if you have time. Go to the PTA meetings. Learn with your children. Become aware of the issues at hand and help with the process.

I'm very disappointed in the grade received on the school's report card. My oldest daughter is currently in 5th grade and has nothing but wonderful things to say about the school, it's teachers as well as other staff. Since transferring to this school 3 years ago, they have been nothing but wonderful. I am so happy that my children are enjoying school. That's how it should be...a place where students want to come. We do, however miss Mr. Behr as principal. Many traditions have been started and maintained...the pork chop derby, field day, and dance fete , which is fun for kids...and talked about the entire year...before and after these activities take place. We love P.S. 35 and want to thank Mrs. Chanod, Ms. Morton, Mrs. Hartmann, Ms. Zito, and the rest of the staff for taking the time to care and really help make P.S. 35 a great place to be!!!!!!!

I am a parent from PS 35. It is the closest thing to a private school without the tuition.

Great academic program. There is plenty of art, sports and extracurricular activities. Parents are very involved. The principal has been there for three years and has done very well to keep up the integrity of the school.

The small school mixed with the enthusiasm of the Principal and Teachers make this a very special school. I transferred my child into this school from a private school and feel like we hit the jackpot Mr. Behr is a one of a kind Principal his energy and dedication to the kids and parents as well as his staff, is infectious. Mr. Behr and the PS 35 staff have gone out of their way to make my child feel welcome. Academically this school is exceptional as well !

Both my sons attend P.S. 35 and I am extremely pleased with both the level of teaching and the sense of community that is present in the school. It is a small school so there is a good amount of parent involvement. There are limited extracurricular activities; the 'music program' that was reinstated this year, has not quite gotten off the ground yet and it's already January.

P.S. 35 is an excellent school academically, however, if the child needs more than just basic extra help, it isn't a school i would recommend.

P.S. 35 is an excellent start for the children's scholastic career. The dedication of the administration, teachers and staff to the children is beyond compare. Test scores continually increase, with a 97% attendance rate. P.S. 35 is the best place for the best education.
