INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I literally had the WORST years of my life here. I was severely bullied and the teachers didn't even try and help me even after multiple letters of complaint. The teachers are horrendous. The quality of students is HORRIFIC. It was cliquey and snooty. I would never recommend this school to anyone. Love, A successful Hilltopper.

This school was a huge disappointment to us. Teachers are below mediocre - will not a move a finger or put any enthusiasm into teaching. Getting a meeting with my child's teacher was nearly impossible. She'd literrally race out the door as soon as kids are dismissed. Principal is just for show - she never has time for anybody or anything. I requested an appointment many times and the one response I get she is busy - realy busy every day for the next month ?!! And the quality of education is just not there - Kindergarten has 40 kids in the class!!! Teacher has no clue who is who. Needless to say we will not be coming back for next year.

They are backdated in technology the principal does nothing but cover up the bullying issues the monsignor does nothing but look at the parish and school members as envolopes the faculty makes the children solve their bullying problems when the students might be scared or worried to face their bully and i will do anything i have to prevent new parish or school members to OLSS it is a descrase it makes me sick

Two of my three daughters attend Our Lady Star of the Sea. Classes range from Pre-K to 8th Grade. I like this school because I feel strong about Religion and OLSS teaches and uses religion in some form every day. My children are safe and all visitors are seen through security cameras and must be buzzed in. The teachers are educated and most teach well. Spanish is taught in fifth through eighth grades. The students are well prepared to move to the next grade and equally prepared for high school. Computer class is only once a week, if that. Gym class is once to twice a week and the Gym teacher is phenomenal. There is such a variety of activities from week-to-week and the children are engaged. Children are taught a sense of Community by volunteer work and the yearly celebration of Catholic Schools Week. Many sports are present at OLSS such as Soccer, Baseball, Softball, Swimming, Track, Basketball and Cheerleading. Boy and Girl Scouts are also present at OLSS. Children can also join Alter Servers, Teen Club and participate in the Annual School Variety Show and other class performances held throughout the year.

This is the best school I've known. My daughter loves her teachers and classmates. She learns alot more than other schools i have to say honestly. OLSS cares about my child and her teaching about the catholic religion. The school is kept beautiful and the church is very clean. They lock the doors when your child is in school, which I love so i Definetily know my daughter isnt runnging around doing what ever she wants like public school. I just love the school and my daughter couldnt be happier. Every day my daughter wants to go to school early to see her teacher mrs. isabelle and ms. lisa. she just loves it. I highly recommend OLSS to everyone who wants there child to succeed a great education with everything!

OLSS was one of my favorite schools of the 5 schools I attended throughout my elementary, junior, and high schools. I am now an honors student at my high school preparing to apply to many prestigious colleges include Georgetown, Princeton, Brown, and Columbia. My brother is even trying for Harvard and Yale! I believe that the few years that I attended OLSS really set the base of my education. This is where I was taught that our Catholic faith is extremely important, our education really does matter, and the balance of faith and setting high standards for yourself. As a young child, you don't realize it as well, but as I got older, I was so grateful to have had the opportunity to attended this FANTASTIC school.

OLSS, compared to other private schools, are lacking in language, certain sports, hot lunch, website communication and much needed space. Rather than build a bigger CHURCH, OLSS should have expanded the size of the school so the kids wouldn't feel crushed like sardines in their classes. The catholic school my daughter now attends is far more advanced with their technology and teaching skills, offering at least 2 languages. They also offer sports which extend beyond soccer and basketball.

I am a parent at this school for over 8 years and I think this is the best school for my child. She really loves the school and only has less than 2 years left here. Every year each teacher is dedicated to teaching my child and every child. The administration is excellent also. The parents association has no choice but to raise money for our school since they need all the help they can get. This is a real family unit. I will miss it dearly and so will my daughter. Thank you OLSS. You're the best.

I've been in the school for three years, the teachers are very hard on the kids, they do expect alot from them, so if you don't have the time to help your child with homework it will not work. The principal is nice and so in the assistant principal, the Monsignor however is not all that, the kids are only dollar signs. He does not look in the best interest of the children and it is really turning me to the point of leaving the school, my child does not want to loose her friends. We do not have language and no hot lunch. Also if the parents don't volunteer for lunch duty, kids have lunch in classroom, makes me sick. Had I known all this before, would not be here now.

I have my three children in Our Lady Star of the Sea, and I could not be happier. I love the dedication of the teachers and the Principal. I feel my children are getting the best education I can pay for. I would very much reccommend this school to anyone. The only negative is that the Parents Association raises alot of money for the school and we hardly ever see any changes to the school for the kids as well as the teachers.

Our Lady Star of The Sea School not only met but exceeded my expectations in all areas of education. I have learned that there is a perfect balance between the education process, religous values and parent -teacher relationships. The compassionate staff starts with administration all the way down to maintenance. I would be remiss if I did not take the time to say thank you. My children are learning, thriving and growing both physically and emotionally within this school system. God Bless each and every staff member at OLSS for continuing to make our school the best!

This school has very high standards. The children learn at a comfortable pace but they are expected to work hard. There is excellent discipline and with only 2 classes per grade a family type atmosphere.

This Catholic school has tremendous potential. However, a leadership deficiency exists at the top at this time and the entire student/parent constituency suffers. The Pastor is not concerned with the children only the numbers. Class sizes are too large which prevents teachers and administration to key in on moral and social problems with the student body. Many turn thier back. Basic education is more than adequate, benefitting from proactive parents and some excellent teachers. They offer music, art and computers. This parish school is still very solid, but yearns for a strong, innovative and compassionate presence to lead it.

There are 35 to 40 childern in each class. Except for when the child getsto eighth grade. By that time alot of children have left the school. The parents are pretty much on their own when it comes to the child learning. The teachers are too dependent on the parent for the child to pass their class. There is no communication between parent and teacher, only if the child is doing poorly, and it is the child's fault... not the teaching methods.
