INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

This is an amazing school filled with caring, wonderful people. From the nurse, to the speech teachers, occupational therapists, music and dance teachers and every other teacher and staff member, even the security guard when you walk in the door. They have a level of quality they uphold, they go above and beyond for your child and for the family like no other community or organization I've ever been a part of. They give your child's education, health and well being the personal attention, respect and care you know they deserve and you feel the love they have for their position. Because it's not just a job to them. It feels like they're investing everything they can into helping your child learn, write, speak, move properly, communicate...it's personal to them...because they know and can see and feel how personal it is to us and how invested we are in our children...they try just as hard as we do.... They are amazing. There should be 10 stars for this school. Even the PTA in the school is completely hands on and totally and completely helpful. They also have a parent coordinator to fill in the blanks and helps where she can..they all live for these kids! Truly amazing!

these reviews are interesting. i am disappointed that i cannot write a postive review. my autistic brother is not getting the speech therapy and occupational therapy he needs. we moved to NY last year and he is nonverbal but he did not got speech therapy for a year..........currently he's only getting 1 1/2 hr a week. ...and the school told us to wait until April.......

P.S. 37 is a complete special education school located in Staten Island, New York City. It is part of District 75, New York City's Department of Education's district which provides programs, and services for 23,000 students who have severe cognitive, physical, and emotional disabilities. Each school within district 75 is a lighthouse, for the entire staff is trained to support each student, as well as their parents, as they move every student to be the most independent they can be! At P.S. 37, students are supported by physical, speech, and occupational, therapists. All of them lifting, moving, walking, stretching, each student who needs their service. There is nothing more moving than to see a student, who has been wheel chair bound, or immobile, walking!! I am serious, it has brought tears to my eyes on numerous occasions. In addition, teachers work tirelessly to differentiate instruction so that the student makes progress from where they are, and with the help of the dedicated school counselors, many of the students return to either inclusive programs, or regular education programs!! That is why P.S. 37 deserves to be recognized as America's favorite school!!!!

P.S. 37 is a wonderful school with dedicated, professional and caring staff members. As a member of the Great Kills community, I have several friends whose children, nieces and nephews attended P.S. 37. These students are happy and grow both academically and emotionally. Congratulations to a staff who work so hard and mean so much to these students and their families.

Mrs. Manfredi , the principal, has one of the BEST reputations on Staten Island for being extrmely giving , especially when it come to charities. Her stregnth in standing up to her title is unsurpassed and there is no end to where her efforts end as being a great principal! I am a Dental Hygiene student at NYU College of Dentistry and i had the opportunity this spring to visit some of the classes at PS 37 and teach the students about Dental Hygiene and how to care for their teeth. I was very impressed with the way the children responded and how the classes were conducted. These children would not receive the same type of education if placed in with regular ed children. My experience at the school is one that i reflect on often and consider myself very lucky to have had the opportunity to work with such outstanding people wether they were staff or the students themselves. I hope to continue to visit the school in the future and develop a solid program with the science department that can be continued in the future. I learned many things such as developing lesson plans to teach children with autism and how to modify my planned activities and recognize students learning styles and patterns. These children are such a joy to be around it is very hard not to fall in love with them after spending a short amount of time with them.

The joy she gets from working with these children day in and day out is the type of rewarding experience everyone should hope for. I hear about some of the opsticles these children overcome and see how hard she works to get them to progress and I am proud to say I have such an outstanding mother involved in a program as personalized as the one at PS.37. My mother is one of the many extrodinary educators at PS 37 and they should all be recognized for their hard work and dedication to the school and its students.

I did work there many years ago. The population can be difficult to work with because of severe disabilities. The teachers and paraprofessionals are kind, caring and attentive to the needs of the students.

P.S. 37 is a place where children with disabilities can shine! These children fight each day to accomplish things we take for granted. They are the bright spots in each day, they bring joy to all who have the honor to work with them.

My son LOVES going to school here. He's in his 2nd year and is in prek. He was nonverbal when he started and now every day he talks about going to school and about his teachers and therapists. Everyone we have talked to or gone to with questions has been very helpful.
