Too much homework is given each night. The homework is not quality homework-it is homework the teacher just "grabbed out of a file of worksheets". The homework never reinforces what is on the exams. The middle school science teacher never gave notes it enough information to study from. The textbook information was never on the test. The children suffered because of this. This also happened with the middle school ELA/SS teacher. The instruction is not quality instruction.
Both the administration and teachers are awful. The Principal does not enforce strong academic instruction. He allows his teachers to do what they want. The teachers do not teach, they give assignments and hope the students understand the curriculum in their own!
There is a closeness in this school that cannot be found anywhere else. My daughter wrote an essay on why she loves her school and she stated, "it is my home away from home". Are there problems? Of course there are. Each and every school has imperfections. However, the pros of the school far outweigh the cons. I know with certainty that my children are with loving and amazing teachers. They come home happy everyday from school and that speaks volumes about their school experience. I am constantly getting compliments on their manners, their knowledge and their kindness. This is a direct result of their upbringing at home that is reinforced in their school environment. St. Edwards is a fantastic place for children to not only learn education but also how to be good people.
Thick twice before sending your child here. While the teachers are wonderful, many of them ignore the issues in the class. The children in this school are not very welcoming to new children - especially in the upper grades. There is a bullying problem here which is unacceptable. Two students left midyear in the upper grades last year due to bullying. Administation will not acknowledge for fear of the school closing and losing their jobs.
The number of students per class room is small..unlike many public schools...it permits for a more one on one learning experience....the attitude and behavior of the Entire Staff is Exceptional!...there is no favoritism...all are treated with a great deal of respect.....Principal Anne Schaffer and Father Tom Fusco are Solid....Each exemplifies such knowledge, strength, creativity, and the willingness to change the 'game-play' when something is Not working for the good of the students.....A True Leadership Team!!--Ego's are checked at the door!! There is a passion among the entire staff to continually strengthen the education system and extra curriculum programs for the school. I would hope that Catholic School leadership everywhere recognizes that this type of Integrity, Commitment and Passion is what a knowledgeable parent looks for when selecting an education for their children. God Bless.
