This is a good school. Academically it is comparable to Westhill or Fayetteville Manlius and has similar, or slightly less impressive college admission, national merit scholar, SAT etc. success than those high schools. But, it is smaller and more attention can be focused on preventing weaker students from becoming annonymous. If you are zoned for a weak school, have a child who would like to perform below ability, or are fond of Catholic education or uniforms as things in themsleves, it's a good choice. I am glad it was there for my son who needed a lot of monitoring. But, my daughter thrived at FM and had better music and honors class options. So CBA would have been a poor fit for her. I think a lot of the reviews that compare CBA to generic public schools are from parents comparing it to weak public schools. But, if you compare it to schools with similarly well off student bodies, it is fairly mediocre except for its ability to support less motivated students.
This a college prepatory school. The school demands alot and gets it! Our 2nd child needed to have a meeting with his teachers then did well. College is now easy for him to deal with as he was PREPARED for it. CBA helps students get into the school of their choice. At a public school your child is a number. At CBA, your child has a name! Sloughing off and skating by won't work here. Nor will disciplinary issues. They are tough on both. That won't happen at a public school...too many kids to deal with. One more thing - you know exactly where your child stands academically because is an online program CBA uses to keep you in the loop.
Cba will prepare your child for college. The parents are very active in their children's education at this school as well. My son did not play any sports at this school. But he was accepted in all of the colleges he applied to from east coast to the mid-west. He will attend a school in the mid-west this fall.
While a very challenging and principaled school, the teachers are overworked and can not deal with underachievers. If your child is self motivated, and talented in sports, this is a wonderful school. If your child is not so motivated or interested in art or music, this is not the school for you.
The school exceeded our expectations. Administrators are actively involved. Teachers have high standards and hold students accountable. Respect for others are emphasized. The only disappointing aspect of the school was the music program, though there are signs of improvement.
I went to CBA and the sad truth is the student's chances of a passing grade increase with the size of the parents 'gift' to the school. Just read the comments from students: the poor spelling and grammar says a lot about this 'college prep' school.
Great School, pushing our kids to great things!
If you want an average education, go to a public school. If you want an outstanding education and have great hopes for your kids, send them to CBA.
This school is really good if you want your child to have a good education. CBA gives out a lot of hoemwork, and every teacher challenges the students. Every work you get is hard!
