First off Im in 8th grade and now go ton V.S. North. This is by far one of the best public schools around! Mr. Gruen is my Favorite and there was never any bullying there and my sister still goes there!!! This sis such a joke and a disappointment of how stubborn the parents are around this area. Whoever doesn't like it should go send ur kid to some private school, cause' the last thing we want is you here at this school!!!!!!

I beg to differ ... the emotional bullying in this school is beyond belief --- to think the students and parents sign their names to the 'student code of conduct', only for the school (Gruen) to not take steps to enforce the code and advising the parents that perhaps counselling is needed for the child who was emotionally bullied --- does not create a caring environment. Since Gruen did NOTHING, we moved out of this district and are in a WONDERFUL school district now, who actually DOES enforce its code of conduct -- so much for counselling, eh.... Not a fan of this school since 'Dr. G' retired for Florida.

I have been at Dever for 7 years and have 2 children there, I have to say that I am more than happy with this school. Everyone from faculity & staff do an exceptional job teaching the children. As a parent that is very involved with the school and PTA, I see on a day to day basis the caring that the staff has for ALL the children that attend. Mr. Gruen knows Every child by first name and he really takes the time to get to know them. The after school activies are endless. We are the Best in the district!!!

I agree The bullying in this school is ridiculous. In addition, if you your child is bright and or advance and you bring this matter to there attention I.E. teacher and or principal you will get very little help if any help at all...

I have been a parent in this school for 8 years. While this school has its ups and downs, the overrall performance of teachers go hand in hand with it.More seniored teaches are set in there ways and are very moody which can affect your childs performance.Posts that you read here are all true. What this school needs is diversity amongst the teachers.Young/old,male/female. This school has approximatley 2 male teachers. In addition 1 temp phys ed whom all the kids absolutley love ( hope he becomes permanent) and 1 teachers aid.Parent involvement is huge in this school.

Sadly, this is a school where the students are not safe. The principal is not willing to protect students from bullying. He is a total 'yes man.' He will tell you what you want to hear and then do as he pleases. The concept of differntiated learning is completely lost on this school-so if your child is bright or advanced you will get very little help, just sighs of annoyance from those who want to do the least possible for an increasing population of students with academic and emotional issues.

There isn't enough time or space to share our profound gratitude to the faculty and staff of J.A. Dever El. School. Not only is the education top notch but the teachers, staff, etc are caring, committed professionals. We have children with learning disabilities and J.A. Dever has done more to help. They have encouraged and equipped them with more than just the 'abc's' of life. They have imparted a deep sense of self respect, integrity and courage to face and conquer their challenges. A special thank you to Principal Gruen & Dr. Karen Jason for their dedication, compassion and wisdom.

The quality of the academic programs in this elementary school are exemplary. The G & T program augments the talents of gifted and talented children by stimulating them with projects above and beyond the regular classroom experience. The music program, led by Mr. Edward Chariello is the best music program on Long Island. Mr. Chariello has repeatedly taken this elementary school band to music in the parks and won first place year after year, while competing against most of the best schools in the Northeast. He is an amazing teacher who truly inspires the children. The Principal, Mr. Gruen is a very dedicated principal who knows most of the 600 students by name. He is totally involved and a true credit to the profession.
