Students have a wide variety of learning experiences from the earliest ages at Watkins Glen Elementary. Even at the kindergarten level, they have specialist teachers in art, music, and gym. So far, all of the teachers that my kids have had have been dedicated and passionate about teaching. They all seem to have a serious, but light-hearted approach to learning; education is very important, but it should also be fun. We moved here from the suburbs of a major eastern city, and I have to say I'm much more impressed with the faculty and facilities of Watkins Glen Elementary School than I was with those in the city we came from.

I am very impressed with the Kindergarten program- my daughters teacher is great and her gym teacher is a great example to the kids on staying healthy with opportunities of parent involvement in swimming and jumprope for heart. Reading is strongly impressed and so is responsibility. The only area I would recommend improvement in is making the cafeteria menu healthier- the main food choices are not healthy (breaded, hi fat content and not a wide variety, not visually appealing to the kids). The principal told me they are working on it, so hopefully 2007-2008 will be SCT Boces chance to shine in this area and show us a great improvement that they are matching the teaching of healthy food choices with the reality of serving them to our children.

Quality of this school is fine as long as you do not have a child with special needs. After trying for a year to have my child tested for learning disability, still not done.I started last September. My child is passed on to the next grade. However can my child keep up with the other children. No. Hopefully thing will change this year. I believe they have made some changes from last year. The teachers seem interested, but with thier time streached as it is . It is very hard. The principal seems interested but so far nothing has been done to help my child. Hopefully other children at this school it recieveing the help they need.
