I am not too happy about Preston school. My son 's teacher waited half of the semester to let me know my son was not doing good in school and she told me that he was improving and when I have the final report card I notice my son did not improve at all. Now I have to pay a lot of money to send my son to the Sylvan Center for summer school because in preston they don't offer extra help.

The Principal and staff make an amazing learning enviroment.

Preston is a wonderful school. The teacher are very good - some of the best in this school district - and the principal is fantastic!! It is obvious that they all care a great deal about the children. The teachers are always giving feed back on how the children are doing and are quick to offer extra help when it is necessary - rather than making the parents ask for it. I wish this school went all the way to 12th grade!

One of four elementary schools in prestigous Harrison CSD. Excellent in math, science and music. Heavy parent involvement within a community of many nuclear families.

About the tests

Beginning in the 2012-2013 school year, the New York State Department of Instruction implemented new assessments designed to be aligned with the Common Core State Standards. The new standards for proficiency in these subjects are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change. See this letter from New York's Commissioner of Education for more information on these changes.

In 2013-2014 New York used the New York State Assessments to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English language arts and math, and in grades 4 and 8 in Science. At present 2013-14 results are available only for English language arts and math. The tests are standards-based, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of New York. The goal is for 90% of students to meet or exceed grade-level standards on the tests.
