Wonderful community involvement, fantastic academics, opportunities for children with all types of interests including art, athletics and music.
This is a great school! I am in the High School. Most the teachers are awesome, especially my English Teacher who goes above and beyond! Lots of clubs and sports to get in.My only concerns is that some teachers do nothing and some are way to strict! Overall it's a really safe school with nice teachers, great education, and many clubs. My only concerns is that some teachers do nothing and some are way to strict!
i was a student at this school for 4 years, the teachers can range from great to poor, the good ones are mostly the older ones, who are retiring. The clubs and sports on the other hand are great, except for the coaches, it is all politics and this does not help the truly motivated athletes truly succeed just because one parent donated more to the booster club. As for the allegations of the administration supporting some sports more than others (football) it is not true, the athletes and parents raise almost all of the money that make it look unfair.
I love this school I have a great educatiion
Sayville school district is very over rated. They are more interested in patting themselves on the back then they are with the children. If you have a perfect student for a child, then this the school district for you, but if the child needs services, forget it. Their special ed dept. is horrible, I do not recommend this school district.
The principal is ineffectual--he needs to retire already. Teachers run the gamut from poor to great. I once got a letter from the Honors English teacher which was addressed 'Dear Perspective(sic) Honors Student'; this didn't bode well. They tout their computer savvy, but their website is a sad joke. Most teachers don't have sites or they never update them. When used, teacher websites can be invaluable to a parent! The Music Department is, however, outstanding! Kids are very much into cliques. Lots of drinking by the 'best and the brightest'--surprising, but true. In all, Sayville has an undeserved reputataion as one of the better districts. In my experience--three districts in all--it's just the same--no better, no worse--than most.
This school puts too much emphasis on athletics and too little emphasis on education.
this district likes to deal with the highly motivated student offering them everything at the expense of the average student who just passes through. the ninth period is a joke (this is for the benefit of the student who needs extra help),but what happens if half the class is there, how is this extra help? the parent than hires a tutor for sixty dollars for a half hour and prays to God that this will help. the administration needs to be changed, too many people not getting to things that need to be taken care of(catch this-the principal helps to coach the football team!)the teachers are covered by tenure so they do not have to explain themselves or their actions,no accountability can equal neglect. the extracurricular activities are the best, the art and music programs are terrific. the parental participation is at par with other schools.
Overall a positive experience for students, especially self-motivated, high achieving ones. There are many dedicated teachers and many high level courses available as well as clubs and activities. I do feel some concern for the 'average' kid who can often get lost in the cracks. I am also unhappy with the power and sense of entitlement given to the football team. It is felt by all the students and is grossly unfair, especially when supported by the principal.
great small school, but I felt that my child had not been prepared for the responsibility of college with adequate study skills or motivation. There were constant allowances for actions or inactions, and very little accountability.
