This school more like prison. School starts at 7:00 or 7:15 am and in order to get to school on time my child should take 6:30 bus and wake up to get ready for school at 5:30. This is ridiculous. My son start high school as an honor student, but during his first year he was getting up to 9 hours of home work and after sport activities he was coming home around 6pm plus home work he was going to bed at 2 am. I went to school to talk to them about enormous load of home work, but they only blaim everything on him being slow with home work or playing games on computer etc.. Now he is a senior without any dreams and motivation to keep learning. During more then 3 years of this school we went true several incompetent teachers, detentions for being in cafeteria during study hall, etc.. My hairdresser placed her daughter to privet school because she was constantly bullied and school did not do anything to help that girl. I should of done the same. We have a few suicidal kids and my neighbors daughter was trying to kill herself to. If you love your kids run from this school.

There are much better schools. This school is good in academics but they lack in any student control. They do not teach values like respect and compassion and the students seem to dictate too much in this school. Parents put pressure on the school even when their child is in the wrong and subsequently the school does not do its job. THey need to tighten their dress code and be more accountable with their students. This school is highly political and unjustly swayed. If you have other choices I would explore them

The school is great when it comes to education, but not enough to balance out the concern for sports, as if it was more important than academics. And there seems to be a lot of discrimination as well, which scares me because I wouldn't want anybody else witnessing this sort of acts that just aren't necessary.

Monroe Woodbury HS is a great school. The teachers are nice, the students are friendly, and nothing bad happens here. The lunch tastes amazing and there are many things to eat! In MWHS, there are many things we can do, from clubs and activities, to sports and plays. There are a variety of fun, yet when it comes to academics, MW is very dedicated and the teachers actually want you to go to college. Great school - 10/10! -Monroe Woodbury Freshman Class of 2017! Excellent school with very qualified teachers, lots of available electives for students, competitive with athletics and academics. There was one area I felt they lacked in though. We are a military family and my daughter transferred to the school the summer before 11th grade. The counseling staff didn't seem to understand how to help transfer students very well and didn't provide consistant information on diploma requirements since my daughter was not staying in NY for college and therefore didn't need additional endorsements on her diploma. We had to figure out a lot of that on our own.

Certain teachers/staff in this school have bullied (put their face near my child & screamed for no reason, threatened physically, wouldn't allow passage through), deliberately miss-graded my child because I complained about the teacher

To this parent, it sounds like you are the only parent that feels this way about M-W. It seems to me you are wrong and everyone else is right because you are the only parent or student that gave the school a bad review. If you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything.

Monroe-Woodbury wins in my book for one of the best public high schools in New York State. The school is one of the biggest i've come across, which in the long run helps kids adapt to the college size and life. The sports are this school are also one of the best, if not the best, in the state as well. They're football is ranked nationally as well in New York, and they're sports are always top notch in winning state competitions. Anybody transferring to New York should be putting their kids in this high school. It's exceptional, but fairly high in school taxes and well-worth.

What a privilege it was to study at MW. This public school is exceptional at cultivating students, and the variety of extracurricular activities strengthens a student's growth. Some of the teachers are comparable to top universities' professors (I speak from experience). Mr. Filippone is a lovely person. Finally, the top graduates of each class have the opportunity to attend top- and second- tier colleges and universities!

I think this school is the best....with all the classes that they offer. Their teachers go above and beyond to give these kids the knowledge to get ahead and prepare them for the future. Monroe-Woodbury is the best.

Monroe-Woodbury is an amazing school that allows students to prepare for life ahead of them. It is a privaleged school that offers many electives. Students are able to experiment and decide what they want to do in college. Monroe-Woodbury is a safe place to learn and I wouldn't want to go anywhere else.

This school main focus is sports oriented. I don't think this school emphasizes academics. It seems like if you're not participating in sports, you're nothing.

My daughter is a Junior at this school & has been a student here since 9th grd. She is doing wondefully & is an A/B student. She is taking advanced Spanish for college credit & the school offers many opportunities for extracurricular activities & sports. The school is large however, I think this is good to prepare the youth for college life. The classes are not over-crowded. The principal is approachable and the school has zero tolerance for inappropriate behavior.

Monroe Woodbury has excellent educational programs with various honor and Ap classes which offer early college credits. The Music program is one of the best in the state with numerous bands, orchestras, chorus and plays. There is a tremendous amount of active clubs including many in language, buisness, student council, government , law, health and more. The sports are no doubt exceptional, as the school excells in cheerleading, basketball, baseball, hockey, soccer, voleyball, tennis, lacrosse, track, swimming, and Football! Though it is a large school it is safe and nonviolent. Excelling in academics and extracurricular activities Monroe Woodbury is the best public school in Orange County and one of the top picks in New York State.

Academics are outstanding for such a large public school, though the community is growing quite rapidly and it will be difficult for the school to keep pace. Extracurricular activities are also very good, with the music program being one of the best in the state, and the football team are the reigning state champions. Parent involvement is also good, and this past year's new principal, Aldo Fillipone, is 1000 times better than the previous princapal. Most importantly, however, for the 06-07 school the football looks to repeat as state champions and has a great chance to do so with all the community and school support it receieves because of the quality of the school district.

The academic programs at Monroe-Wooodbury have always been above par, but as the more experienced teachers are begining to retire I fear what will become of the core courses.

The change of priciple has definately been beneficial. MW is a good school, with excellent classes. They offer Honors, AP, and college credit courses, along with most electives I've ever seen. The only drawback is the size of the school, which is way too big for my tastes.

M-W HS offers a wide variety of programs to suit the needs of just about any level of academic achievement. Preparation for college-level work is excellent. Teachers are experts in their areas, but often equate good grades with good effort, which is not necessarily true. There is a wide variety of the arts available. Sports are big in M-W as is the music program, which is first-class. Parents are deeply involved in their children's academic and extra-curricular activities. Taxes here, as elsewhere in the area, are high.

Monroe Woodbury has an excellant education program with numerous clubs and activites. This school excels in sports such as in football, cheerleading, hockey, basketball, soccer, lacross, golf, baseball, and others. We have extreme honors classes and expand programs. There's fashion classes, tec, art, and music programs that are acceptional. Monroe Woodbury has been proven to be the best public school in Orange county,New York.

This school is too crowded, has too many periods in the day(12), 1/2 period for lunch, treats students like convicted felons. For all the great reviews I am extremely disappointed. Why are there so many electives and so confusing?

MW is great, I love it. But, one major problem there is security. The students can get out of control, and the administration is practically non-existant. Where is the principal? They have great music, art and drama programs. It's really such a shame that such a great school is getting such a terrible reputation now.

The school is very nice, however it's very packed, the Principal(s) aren't the best. The school use-too be a great school, however it's getting to be a 'bad' school, students are going out of control because the staff, all they want is control and lock downs. The town should stop building homes, so the school won't be so packed, taxes won't go up, and kids will learn alot better then they do now. Overall this school for right now is a great school, meet alot of new people and have alot of fun. My daughter said that they make no sence when it comes to food, they can't drink soda, but they can drink juice that has about twice the suger. Does that make any sence?

This HS has too many students to be controllable. Unfortunately its the children that suffer. Principal not present enough to matter.
