I am a parent of school 17 for many years and I have no complaints about the staff. The principal Rita Morehead is great with the children and also the office staff is always there to help with any questions you may have.I have 3 children that have attended there one of which will be graduating this year, my other 2 children got into the best junior h.s. and and h.s. in yonkers after being taught in school 17. I have also encouraged others to send their children there , which they have and have had no complaints with the school. If you want your child to learn, and be successful throughout their future school years school 17 is the perfect place for them to do so. I am glad that I picked this school to lead my child on the road to success and if success is what you strive for in your child school 17 is an excellent start.

School 17 is a wounderful school.School 17 has excellent and fun teachers. Our principal is very nice but at the same time she challenges us to prepare for our state tests.Everything in our school is fantastic.Every student appreciates the things that they have in their school.
My review is in response to the latest review given by a kindergartener's mother. I feel the same way. Last week on the first day of school kids were wandering around some of them crying because they didn't know where they were going. There was no one there to help them. They walked into my sons classroom which wasn't the right room and needed someone to help them. I am talking about five yr old kids walking around alone. I didn't receive a letter stating my child's room or teacher. I had to call the school ahead if time to find out. I feel ther is a real lack of adult supervision around in the building. Definitely needs more organization.

School 17 is a wonderful school - it all starts with the Principal - Mrs Moorehead is awesome. She knows ALL of the children and works with the parents to bring out the best in each and EVERY child. I was always inspired by her weekly phone messages - my son always smiled at the inspirational songs and quotes she would use. The Teachers are dedicated and focused - they work hard to ensure that the children push themselves to their highest potential. My child had a wonderful experience at School 17 in Yonkers, NY. Yonkers schools have had many things said about them - however, if you saw firsthand the dedication and devotion of the Principal and Teachers (and Parents!) of Yonkers School 17 - you would put them up against ANY school in Westchester County. My child graduated in June 2012 - and he is well prepared to enter his next challenge - middle school! Thank you - Mrs. Moorehead and the staff at School 17!!! Cheers to you.....keep up the great work.

I LOVE School 17 my daughter has attented there since PreK and the teachers are definately top noch! Mrs. Morehead is one of the best pricipals I have ever met! She knows all of her students by name and their parents! I never have to worry that my daughter would get lost in the school for ALL the teachers know who she is and greets her and I with smiles!

Not the best or safest school. The lack of funding (so common in NY and Yonkers) shows. The principal and teachers are nice, but you have to keep your eyes open and really talk to other parents and your child to know what is going on in the class and make sure everything is ok with child. There was almost no homework in K, which caused some problems when we transferred to NJ school- my child was behind kids in NJ s 1st grade even though she was doing great in K in Yonkers school. I m glad we re in NJ now and out of this school.

School 17 is a very nice school. The principal is very active with the parents to resolve issues. You can always get a hold of Ms. Morehead because she cares. This is very refreshing in today's time. My child is in the 4th grade and although academically my child does well, I believe that there has been a huge focus on the standardized testing and I don't believe there is a well rounded education format. When the ELA was coming it was all English homework, math test was all math homework, now its all about the science test coming up. I just find that there is a lack of reinforcing what the kids have learned earlier in the year because once the standardized test is completed thats it for that subject. My child has not brought home ANY math homework since the standardized test was completed.

I think the principal of this school is the best. This is the first school where I know my children are going to be all right. It's like leaving them with family, more principals should be like Mrs. Moorehead. She's not just their principal, she's a friend, a mother, a grandmother.
