Having moved to Yorktown recently from one of the very "best" school districts in Westchester, our experience has been very positive. The teachers are supportive and easy to communicate with, each child carries a personal mini laptop, grades and tests scores are posted online and their special education teachers are amazing. My kids have found it very easy to fit in and love their new friends.
The school is the best, it actually got a blue ribbon award, the teachers are great, funny, and really challenge us. It is very easy to get in touch with them. It is almost a progressive school the way the classes are taught in the higher grades. It also has a really good special ed dept. There are really good sports teams that the 8th graders can participate in and the 8th graders can also take some academic classes in the high school. The facilities are great, there is a whole new sunny wing with big lockers. The pool isn't disgusting anymore, in fact, they just renovated the pool and locker rooms and they are AMAZING! There are laptops for everyone and smart boards in every math, science, social studies, english, and language classroom. All of the people are nice, no snobby people that you usually find in Westchester.
I love my school. The pool could use a little improvement. The teachers are super nice and attentive. They care about my grades and help me if I have a question. I wouldent go to a different school if I had a choice.
Both staff and parents are very involved in the school. The are very high on discipline but also support your child with their needs. The only problem I have is you can have an up hill battle obtaining extra help for your child, which might be because many parents are looking for this help. Sports are great but Yorktown does not place an emphasis on it over education. Very well run.
