With some trepidation, we transferred our daughter from private school mid-year 2d grade into Mohansic. To our pride and delight, she has flourished. This school is truly a special place: Principal Susie Berry and her administrative staff are thoughtful, responsive and caring; the curriculum very strong; the teachers excellent; even the afterschool Enrichment Program is terrific! The whole school made a concerted effort to welcome in our daughter. We couldn't be happier. Thank you Mohansic.

My son is presently in First grade at Mohansic and my daughter will be attending Kindergarten there in September. The school is truly amazing. My son's teacher is wonderful. Even though I work full-time, I am still able to be actively involved in his education. There are so many things for the kids to get involved with -magic shows, silly hat day, wear your pajamas to school day, family activities, after-school activities, etc... They also have their own 'school mail-box' where you can send your child a letter. The students are encouraged to write to eachother. They are able to take out books daily from the school library. It is a school where everyone there is very concerned about your child. There are no doubts for me. When they say that it is a 'special place,' you really should believe it.

I love this school. Every teacher is loving, enthusiastic, structured, and all of the kids are happy. I'm involved in the PTA, and have been a class mother for both my kids, what a wonderful experience. The staff is available to you at any time, and the principal encourages your involvement, questions, and concerns. The motto is 'Mohansic, a very special place'.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 New York used the New York State Assessments to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English language arts and math, and in grades 4 and 8 in science. The results for English language arts and math are displayed on GreatSchools profiles and the science results will be added when they are released in the Fall of 2013. The tests are standards-based, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of New York. The goal is for 90% of students to meet or exceed grade-level standards on the tests.
