I can't be more thrilled with the social and learning skills my daughter attained while going to our Montessori. Cant wait for my little one to join the ranks.

This school is the greatest! My children are learning to think for themselves and learning HOW to learn. They are moving at their own pace. I didn't want my children "doing the same thing at, at the same time, in the same way because they are the same age." Actually, I saw that quote in the school office. I think it's from a Time Magazine article and it describes exactly how I feel about education. Montessori schools have multiage classes so it makes it easy for students to learn from each other and to teach each other. So different and much better than common core!

I could not have asked for a more nurturing environment for my daughter. I have witnessed her grow over the past 2 years into a confidant, considerate and passionate little being, who loves to learn and explore. I credit this to the warmth, caring and compassion of her teachers at OMS. I am confident that I made the best choice for my daughter s early education.

With a mix of warmth, patience and know-how, the experienced teachers love what they do and it shows. I wouldn't send my children anywhere else. In addition, the curriculum, activities, events and electives are well-balanced, fun and challenging.

Our kids attend OMS and they love their school and all of their teachers! They really enjoy learning there and just can't wait to go back to OMS this fall! The teachers at OMS go way beyond the standard role of simply teaching students what they need to know to satisfy 'snapshot tests' (where too often the only goal is to parrot back information regardless of understanding it). The OMS approach to individualized attention, teaching at a pace tailored to each child, and caring for their students' whole being (e.g. their growth in the roles of becoming inquisitive, confident students and cooperative peers) is wonderful to see in action -- and the results are undeniably effective. We are gratified parents and would wholeheartedly recommend OMS to anyone seeking a truly well-rounded education for their children.

Just had to spread the word! I had considered home schooling my children until I found Our Montessori School. I wanted my children to be self-reliant learners, to value integrity, be innovative thinkers and have a sense of responsibility and ownership of their education. I did NOT want them to learn to be terrific test takers striving for high grade-point averages. I found all this and more at OMS. My children are learning for the joy of learning. They are exposed to so much more that what I alone could give them if I were home schooling. The teachers are exceptional and know each child so well. They are helping to form the next generation of caring, problem solvers. The founders of the school hand picked these wonderful teachers and then stepped out of the way to let them do their jobs. There is no micro-managing of every little thing. If tests are the only way for you to tell how your children are learning then perhaps Common Core is for you. On the other hand, if you can judge for yourself that your children are advancing by leaps and bounds and are happy young people then this is the place for you.

I agree this is a nurturing school and a great place for young minds to explore. But I personally know of 3 cases where pretty big learning disables were missed. They do work a lot with kids one on one, but in these cases it backfired and masked a much bigger underlying problem. The teachers, administration and owners take no responsibility for any academic failure, they push blame back on parents. They only have one method of testing which is outdated and not used in any other school and they do not track progress of their students. At the cost of some other children, I hope they change their policies, but it will always be a dictatorship where parent feedback is simply tolerated.

OMS is a wonderful school with nurturing teachers. Our daughter has learned so much throughout the years at OMS. She has severe allergies and we feel confident that she is in great care. She is loved by her teachers. Our daughter loves the school so much that she asks to stay longer. She loves to learn and we owe it all to OMS. Thank you!

The school has a good academic base, however, its management is lacking direction. The school is scattered around several buildings, each run at the teacher's will -there are no standards of any kind. If you have questions about any teacher's style or approach, the school Director's solution is to offer you to move your child to another class/building, hence, never addressing the issues. Also, the school buildings are obsolete at best, they are in need of a lot of improvement -starting with new paint on the walls, air conditioning and meeting basic needs such as proper bathroom facilities for the children in their main building. We decided to leave the school to a more structured, appropriate learning environment, as many others have. If the school wants to retain students or attract new ones, the owners should seriously consider investing in it. The school sign says it all.

Great teachers, but those who run the school are out of touch with the parents. As a parent it frustrating to find out that teachers are constantly being moved around between the various classrooms. One of the reasons that we pay the money for OMS is that we view it as a nurturing program with a wonderful staff. I've always felt as though classroom consistency is paramount which is why a rotating door of different personal (year after year) is very concerning. I now hear that they've cancelled the infant program. This was one of the biggest draws in sending my children to OMS. Doing so is completely short sighted and will impact enrollment for years to come. My wife and I trusted those involved with the program which is why we chose this school and continued to send our kids through the system. It's a shame to hear that it has ended. My advice...incorporate reviews from the parents (teacher, school and administration reviews) at that end of the year. This way you will have a better understanding of deficiencies as well as strengths from a parents perspective. We will help to paint an accurate picture of what we love about OMS and what should change.

Words cannot express the gratitude and appreciation we feel for Marge and the entire staff at the Carmel Montessori School. Our experience with our son was so positive that there was no question our daughter would go there as well. It wasn't until our son was in the 2nd grade before the work caught up to where he was when he left Marge's class. Both children were always so happy to go to school there and we never had a concern about their well-being. We knew they were in the most professional yet nurturing environment, and will always cherish our memories of these years.

Well, having sent my son and daughter to Our Montessori School and being so impressed with the teachers, that my children are sending their children to OMS . The teachers are truly caring ,and not only the teachers but the administration, REALLY ,do care ,the students are NOT numbers but, Laura ,Nancy ,Alex . They receive much more than book knowledge they are taught to care about each other ,taught to care about always doing the right thing. they learn by example from teachers who have been there long enough to teach two of my family's generations. My son has a family and lives out of state and trying to find a school for his daughters that comes close to OMS is impossible . The owners have done a wonderful job in assembling a staff that has been there for more that 20 years .I am truly indebted to OMS for being there for my kids and instilling such wonderful values in my kids and the education to use them.

Phenomenal teachers in Yorktown Stepping Stones (knowledgeable, experienced, supremely enthusiastic and nurturing). I agree with reviewers that say administration is not great. School lacks good leadership. It's really a shame.

Wonderful school! My 2 year old goes to the Stepping Stones Toddler program, and my 3 1/2 year old is in the pre-k/kindergarten program. I am extremely impressed with the quality of the OMS program. The teachers are exceptional and are very nurturing. The program is academic, and my kids have learned more at OMS in the toddler/pre-k program then they will learn in kindergarten at the public school.

My daughter had a wonderful experience in the Carmel Nursery/Kindergarten class. Marge and the other teachers in their room were caring and supportive, and always did what they could to encourage my daughter to excel both socially and academically.

At OMS, my child is now happy, excited about school and eager to learn. (this was definitely not our experience in public school!) The OMS staff does a remarkable job of supporting when my child needs support, and providing challenge when my child needs challenge, academically, socially, emotionally, and in practical life skills. I have personally found the staff to be very responsive to parental imput. The children are proud of what they learn and seem very happy together.

OMS and Cheri Baron have totally changed my daughters' life. We couldn't be happier with the creative, hands on, confidence boosting, challenging program. There is a love of children here that we did not experience at her other school. Bad behavior is not accepted here and all behavior is addressed, acknowledged, and discussed. It is amazing how Cheri is able to keep things so positive every single day. I have yet to see any of the 12 kids unhappy in her class. The work that is done is phenomenal and has lifted my daughters' self esteem to an all time high. Cheri and OMS have brought my daughter back to where she once was. Thanks to Cheri, she is a happy and confident little girl again.

My children have grown both socially and academically while at OMS. The teachers are truly dedicated. They understand how important it is to celebrate a child's strengths and to patiently cheer them on, and help them grow, in areas where they need assisatance. I have watched my children blossom while in the care of these incredble individuals. The teachers are easy to talk to, attentive, and always have the child's best interest at heart. I would highly recommend this school.

My daughter has attended OMS for three years now and the teachers are simply phenomenal. Dedicated, caring and highly experienced. However, I have to agree with the other parent reviews. It's a great school, but the communication and management can definitely be improved.

This school has dedicated, loving and gifted teachers. However, the owner/principal's recent flat and autocratic refusal to meet with parents concerning a legitimate school-related issue has been deeply troubling. This approach does not encourage family participation in any real way, and led us to transfer our child to a more responsive and inclusive environment.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
