2013 End of Grade scores are as follows for this school: only 41.3% passed Reading exam and only 24.2% students passed Math exam. For both Reading and Math of middle school students, only about 40% passed in North Carolina. 27% of teachers have college degrees in this school and NC is ranked 49th in teacher pay. The library is clean and organized-great staff too. There are a couple of nice teachers and there is a new principal. Disruptive students seem to rule the school though. If you can read this, you must have received an education in a different state.

I had two kids go through this school and they had a wonderful experience. The teachers and staff are dedicated to providing a great learning experience. They also have a lot of parental involvement through volunteering. I love this school.

The school is very nice. It is clean and comfortable during the summers because of the central air that many schools do not have in other states. Making the classrooms a good learning environment. Overall the school has an excelent curriculum and extra activities that enhance the learning experience. But, i have one complaints, the first being that some students take advantage of the teachers and disrupt class over and over and do not get punished.

We transferred here from another Middle school with our children and I have a hard time getting the teachers to answer emails and notes sent to school. There are no Parent teacher conferences unless you request one with each teacher and plan on getting different days and times spread out throughout the week. They do "student led" conferences where your child hands you a stack of their work from each class and you can ask the teachers a question if you happen to think of one at the time. My daughter's first month at school was met with disruptive bullying from different students. Why was my child punched in the ribs IN FRONT OF A TEACHER and nothing was done? And because her little boyfriend thought my daughter was "cute". I have heard teachers in the halls make smart remarks BACK to the students who are being inappropriate. This must be why since we have lived here ours are the only children in our large subdivision that go to this school.

My son had an excellent first year at Southern Middle School. The teachers were very involved and aware of his progress. Extra-curricular activites, like TSA were a wonderful addition to his overall learning experience. If there is any flaw, it is in the large number of disruptive kids and the constant need for discipline, which wastes a lot of everyone's time. All in all, we were very pleased with the school.

This is a real world school with a staff of teachers that genuinely care about these kids. There are plenty of activities to enrich the middle school experience at Southern Middle. Active parents make a real difference here too.

I expected more from Moore county schools. Would not recommend this middle school. Too many troubled kids that bully the kids that do follow the rules and want to learn.

As a student who has just graduated from Southern Middle School, I can honestly say that I have thoroughly enjoyed making many wonderful friends and memories at this school. There are many academic oppurtunites to take in and the diverese population makes it easy for one to immerse themselves in a wonderful, interesting group of people. There are so many different clubs to be a part of and being involved in every part of this school is definitely fun and interesting. I have never had such a passionate, smart group of teachers as I have had at Southern Middle School. I am very proud to be able to say tbat I have been a Southern Middle School Dragon who feels prepared for high school and the rest of the world. Deciding to be a Southern Middle School Dragon is the best idea anyone could have!

This school could be better with the discipline. There are some children there that interfere with student learning. It is not fair to risk student learning due to behavior problems.

This is a great school on many levels. One issue it does have, however, is one of safety and consistency in delegation of consequences. While progressive in moving toward whole school IBMYP, bullying is not handled well. There are discrepancies in how discipline issues are handled--theft and harassement are treated lightly. This is a concern.

Southern Middle School is a great school. They have great academic programs. They are very involved with their students and their at home lives. I love the e-mails from teachers. Music, art, sports and other extracurricular activities are a big focus for them also.

I puled my child from this school. I would not recommend this school. More of a school of hard knots then a school of education. The children run this school. Terrible Terrible Terrible.

Great community school. Now the only 'IB' (International Baccalaureat) middle school in the county. Caring administrative and teaching staff. Good discipline, athletics, computer technology.
