We have only been involved with this school for 4 months, but so far I am impressed. The new curriculum is geared toward teaching children to be thinking beings, not memorizing lessons. I like and support this. My son's teacher is patient and handles a full class with a part-time reading Asst. I am slightly disheartened by a few unfriendly staff members and the nutrition program needs improvement. I am an active volunteer and have witnessed some questionable teacher/student interactions. The PTO is strong and active. I see and hear more from the VP than the Principal. My son's teacher is patient and handles a full class with a part-time reading Asst.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 North Carolina used End-of-Grade (EOG) tests to assess students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 in reading and math, and grades 5, 8, and 10 in science. The EOG is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of North Carolina. Students must pass the grade 8 EOG test in order to graduate from high school. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level on the tests.
