I'm disturbed by the negative reviews for Phillips School. Let's concentrate on academics. Do you know that in the 7 years that Dr. Johnson was principal, student achievement has increased from 42% to 72%? That is 20 points. The principal job is to make decisions based on what is good for the whole school environment. She has tried to save so many students from going to the alternative school, counsel parents who don't have a clue about what is going on in their child's classroom, and mentor young teachers that are just trying to make it through the school year. If you are a parent who has not been to school several times to check on your child when they are NOT in trouble--don't complain, get involved. Additionally, the principal is a role model. Her appearance SHOULD be outstanding. Let's see if the current principal cares or can achieves as much. ts

My child attends Phillips and is in the seventh grade going to the eighth. I disagree with the other parents who commented on the school. My child's teachers were very supportive. Anything that went on at that school with my child they would call me and let me know. Teaching is a hard job and my hat goes out to the teachers at that school. I don't always agree with what the principal has to say but I know she really cares about those children. The parents who are commenting on how horrible the school is, is probably never out there trying to help the teachers. If the parents around here would spend more time working together to help out children and stop worrying about Dr. Johnson's appearance then a lot of our problems will be solved. Phillips school is a loveing and caring environment for children.

My daughter attended Phillips Magnet school for her entire fourth grade year. I regret to say that this school is horrible. The children have no discipline or home training. Their is lack of consistency and communication among the staff and the parents. I went to this school when I was young, when it was K-8 grade school. Never in my life would I have thought that this school has come to be what it is now. I am very disappointed overall with everything about this school. The prinicpal is a poor leader, she is more concerned with what she looks like than maintaining a safe environment for the students and staff. I honestly regret letting my daughter stay in that school the entire year. Needless to say she won't be there next year. I just hope and pray that it will get better for other students and parents.
