I have been a parent at Adams YR Elem. for over 7 years now. I have 3 children that attended the school. The administration is the BEST. If you have a problem child it will be taken care of. If you have an AG child they will be taken care of. The staff is awesome have gone through all the grades I can tell you the staff is knowledgeable kind and they get the job done. The PTA is unlike any other I have seen around. They are so involved and make you feel welcome no matter what your level of involvement is. Leaving my children there each day to learn and grow has been the best choice. we have made. I have lived in cary for over 20 years and have heard lots of stories about other schools in the area. I would choose Adams each and every time.
My child started Adams in Kindergarten, I have on numerous occasions had to approach the staff on policy and bullying on the play ground. Each year my child attend I have noticed more parents are pulling their children out. For the first time this has really affected me emotionally because my child's education is very important but the principal does not take a proactive approach when dealing with parents and staff interaction. I am now also looking at other alternatives, there is a code of silence amount the teachers and administratos. This does not sit well with me and I dont like that they teach for the eog scores. To get the grants and recognitions. Parents do your research first. Ask questions ask about the attrician rates over the last 2 years. Also look at the demographics ratio.
My son changed to this school from a traditional calendar and we love it. He is now getting challenged in a way that he had not before. He loves having break throughout the year. This is also the first time he has said that he loves his teacher and loves to go to school.
This school was an absolute nightmare for myself and my kids. The year round school program is cruel and unusual punishment in my opinion. They do not allow for kids to be kids, very military style and way too much homework. I think they should get rid of the year round programs all together. Kids love summer break!!!
My two sons went to Adams for one year, but it was a great year! It really is a wonderful school. They are the only school that I have dealt with so far that has a positive atmosphere. The principal is great and he calls the parents with the child when they see the child doing something POSITIVE. Like helping a friend, doing the right thing! Great Shool, great teachers, wonderful environment. My kids had to change schools but it was soooo much better than Oak Grove.
Bullying and racism are a problem here. The teachers ignore what is going on in front of their faces. It starts as early as Kindergarten.
Bullying and cliques are a huge problem. I don't think staff are doing anything to fix it.
I have two children at Adams and I have to say the experience has been above average. I feel the school has challenged my children which is important, however beware there is a teacher there who is very difficult to deal with and if she singles your child out, the kid will have a miserable year. She was difficult to deal with and swore my child had ADD when in fact he didn't. The principals were not supportive in the situation, they took the teachers side. This year has been a complete turn around and we couldn't be happier. What a difference a teacher makes!
This is my daughter's first year at Adams after being reassigned from another very good Wake County school. I have been more than pleased with Adams. The principal seems to be very engaged with the children and knows most of them by name. I have been very happy with my daughter's teacher and the quality of education she is receiving. Adams has a very good character education program and the school encourages exercise and healthy lifestyles. Most important of all, my daughter seems very happy to go to school each day.
We never see the principal either at the school or at the few after hours events they have.
I am a teacher at Adams, and I have to say, coming from another 'good' Wake County school, I have so far enjoyed my time at Adams tremendously, and considerably more than at my last school. I find the office to be supportive and the parents to be communicative. Teachers are there for one another and 'team' is a common vocabulary word for all. Usually when you read these sites, it is people seeking out a place to complain. It was nice to see that a few parents were out to let others know some of the positives. Every school has pros and cons. I enjoy working with the childre and families of Adams.
My daughter is a kindergartener at Adams. We love her teacher - she has grown tremendously. The focus is learning and supporting all students. All my questions have been answered. The one time my child was sent to the office the principal was firm but caring. He immediately called me and we worked together to address her behavior.
The school isn't run efficiently. The teachers however are an excellent group of educators. They work well with what little they are given. However, because of the lack of guidance from administration, bullying seems to be a problem. Therefore, I am pulling my child out of Adams for next school year.
This is the most poorly run school and if it were not for the teachers this school would sink fast. I do not like how the principal gets to ride on the coattails of the great teachers and staff who work hard with the kids everyday when test scores come out. This principal only cares about test scores and not innovative ways of learning. Anyone who thinks outside of the box is immediately reprimanded. He has no business being a principal.anearning. he
I have a 2nd grader and kindergartener at Adams and we love this school. It has a great bunch of teachers who know and care for the students. The student population is a great mix giving my kids a real world view that some kids have more than them and some kids have less. I wwould highly recommend this school.
My daughter entered Adams as a 1st grader. I have been nothing but happy with the school, as well as her WONDERFUL 1st Grade teacher Mrs. Springs. I go regularly to lunches and volunteer in the school, and all my experiences have been positive. The adminstration has been cooperative and friendly to me. I would recommend this school to anyone.
I have two children who have attended Adams. Since the current principal has been in charge, the school has gone downhill. There is no leadership or organization anymore. My older son's last year at Adams was a horrible experience. We are seriously considering moving out of the Adams district so that our younger child can attend a good year-round school.
My son is in kindergarten and the school is always trying to get the parents involved. They are very kind at the school including the principal. Any time I have had questions they were quick to answer them. I am very pleased with the school, and my son loves it.
I feel sorry for the teachers at this school. There are so many of them with the passion and drive to be in the classroom. Sadly, the creative efforts and 'out-of-the-box' thinking that allows students to thrive and keeps them excited about learning, is often overpowered and shut down by the administration. The principal is highly Unprofessional and this concerns me as I am an educator myself. In email and phone conversations he has presented himself in a sarcastic, defensive manner. He seems to run the place more like a corporation At a place where education and students are supposed to be the highest priority, the support for the staff who actually works with the children is incredibly low. Our family loves the year-round schedule and would stand behind the teachers any day.
I loved this school for my daughter's first three years of school--however over time, the school became Very non-kid friendly and very cold-like to the parents...we have loved year round, but have taken our daughter out and will be sending her and our son to the traditional base school which is most unfortunate b/c we Love the year round program...i wouldn't recommend this school at all...
