Front office staff is unfriendly and sometimes not even present to greet visitors upon their arrival. Some teachers seem to just toss information out to their students and 'hope' they catch on. Homework assigned is not even close to challenging. They seem to 'teach to' the EOG and aren't really concerned with re-enforcing basic concepts that would strengthen the child's understanding of subjects. The Principal is very uncaring, when presented with real problems, she will stand by her teachers no matter how a child may be suffering. They will tell you how they don't tolerate certain behavior (bullying, aggression, stealing) but basically your child will be left to fend for themselves.
We have been at this school for 3 years. Since that time, my daughter has had only 1 good teacher. The current teacher she has spends most of her time ridiculing students in front of the class for not understanding material rather than helping them to understand the material. The principal is great! She is loyal to her teachers; but she does work with the parents to resolve issues. The office staff are very friendly and helpful.
The teachers make this school great. The principal and staff have a solid plan in place, and given the massive growth in the area - along with the school board issues - I couldn't be happier.
My child is in 1st grade at Carpenter and we have had the most wonderful teachers so far! Her 1st grade teacher is so kind and she just loves her! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the office staff is usually rude and condescending. They usually give me the impression that I am a nuisance. As a taxpayer I would appreciate a little more courtesy ~ I do help pay their salary. But that being said, the most important thing to me is that my child is being well educated by a caring teacher, and that we definitely have!
The teachers are great! My son always looks forward to going to school everyday.
My daughters started at Carpenter in 2008-09 school year in 1st and 3rd grade. We were coming from a very pricey, exclusive private pre-k-12th grade school in Florida. What we found was a challenging, warm, supportive environment and really wonderful parents, staff, and leadership. Considering the crazy growth and budget issues facing the entire district, I think Carpenter is doing an amazing job. And my daughter's first grade teacher was by far the best teacher we have ever encountered at any level.
Carpenter Elementary has an outstanding principal who challenges her staff, parents and students to be their best. She gets things done and has high expectations. We have 2 children who have thrived at Carpenter Elementary School thanks to her leadership.
My family moved to NC from Georgia where my daughter enrolled at Carpenter Elem. in the fifth grade. Having a spouse in the military and moving from school to school I can say that I have seen the good and the bad. I must say that my daughter is having the best year ever! Her teacher trully cares about all of the children in her class not only as students, but also as individuals. She makes learning fun and interactive on a daily basis. Not a day goes by where my daughter does not come home and tell me numerous stories what happens in her class. I admire her teacher and respect the hard work she does each and everyday. Anytime I have a question, she takes the time to explain and follows up whenever possible. Most important, she makes my daughter feel safe and inspired. Great school!
I could not agree more with the comments made about the staff, homework or lack of, not challenging, and uncaring attitude. I have never had a problem with faculty or staff at any of my children's schools until this one. Do not expect the administration to listen to your concerns or issues. Having recently moved from another state I have had a lot of concerns regarding this school system and Carpenter certainly did not make the transition any easier.School is very concerned with EOG's and teaching to the median of the class. Teachers are very pleasant however, and truly care about the kids. This school seems about a year behind academically than the public school we came from in another state.
My step son has had many difficulties at this school, the staff are rude to me and his mother and come across as very uncaring. The teachers give him a hard time. His homework has no imagination, and they do not challenge him day to day. If you are looking for this school to be a good one, I would suggest looking somewhere else.
My son started kindergarten last year at Carp.Elem and I must say..BRAVO! to his teacher. She manages to create unique learning ciricullum for each child, depending on their potential and skill level to help them suceed and not get bored. I do not feel like my son is in Kindergarten, just coming home with homework to read. He actually gets homework in math, reading, spellings, science etc. I think this school should be rated 10/10. I love Carp. Elem and I hope they keep up with the good work! Thanks for everything you have done for my son to make his first year at big school such a memorable one!
My daughter has had two of the best teachers I have ever met at Carpenter ES. It is my pleasure to volunteer in my child's class and the teachers and administrative staff are usually very appreciative of the parent volunteers. The cafeteria is spotless and well-run. The carpool line is well-organized. Wake County's policy of socio-economic diversity inhibits the level of academic achievement at this school due to the large number of children whose primary language is not English.
