Looking at this school as part of a district you would say it was the one to go to. However, you get a different view once your child enters the school. Built to hold less than 2000 students this school now has portables and has at least 3000 students. Also all students are scheduled for the only lunch hour provided. Yes they try to get students to go to a smart lunch study hall but it is not enforced. No matter how much staff they have, they can't be every where and protect everyone. Girl against girl bullying is a big factor. The bullies we came across only got warnings. Unless this school gets cut in half and teachers and administration really are there watching out for your children sending your children to a smaller and better monitored school may be in the best interest of your child.
Hands down the best school I have ever been to as a student. The staff is awesome and willing to learn from the students as well.
This school is tops due to students that come from one of the most educated demographics in the nation. While there are a few excellent teachers key leadership is below-average with regard to their educational backgrounds and insights. The principal and others come from lower "safety" colleges/universities with miminal entrance and performance criteria. Leadership also has an over inflated assessment of themselves as a result will only consider inputs that are in-line with their limited perspectives. In critical situations do not expect transparency from the administration or teacher accountability. Over the years we have seen some of the best teachers leave due to their frustration with the leadership and some of their lessor performing peers. If a parent is able and willing to spend money on tutors/outside the school programs, and/or sweat equity to provide instruction the school does offer a range of AP classes for student to demonstrate high academic prowess. However only a few teachers appear to qualified enough to teach them. Almost all the students we know that did extremely well at Panther Creek (got into top Universities) did so with substantial outside support.
My children have had an overall good experience at Panther Creek and up to this year they have had a good experience with their teachers. This semester has been an exception, some things I have noticed. 1) The blackboard assignments are not posted in a timely manner. 2) The directions for assignments are quite often vague or the material has not been covered in their 90 minute classes. 3) Smart lunches are a fantastic idea except there are usually more students in smart lunch than in the actual class. TEACHERS: if you read these post please remember the kids do repeat what has been told to them by teachers so please be an encouraging role model rather being well I'm just going to say it MEAN. Hoping for better semesters ahead!
My son attends Panther Creek HS. He has had a great year so far. His teachers are excellent. The principal is a strong leader. I can't say enough good things about this school. Overall students at this high school have some of the highest tests scores in the state. I believe SMART lunch really helps students do well in school. I highly recommend Panther Creek HS!!
the gpa is extremely low make the gpa standards go higher. Make it more like green hope
This school is truly amazing, there might be a few problematic areas that even I can agree with and I know that probably someone from green hope might have written that review according to their basic knowledge on the school and was probably a student. The principal, the staff might be a little off on some cases, such as the 10th grade AP Social Studies teacher stereotypically, or what I've heard, REALLY does only give A's to blonde girls, and fails the rest. Overall, I enjoy having this school for more years too come.
I am a junior and I have been going to this school since freshman year. I really love this school. The teachers are the best. I love how this school created SMART lunch and other schools have followed from the positive outcome, such as Green Hope! SMART lunch gives me time to do my homework, study, and talk to my teachers if I need help. SMART lunch has helped me maintain my grades. I have practice after school and most times I do not get home till 7. So, with SMART lunch, it allows me to complete and get ahead of my homework for the incoming night. Plus, if I don't have homework, I have an hour to talk to my friends. I would not want to go anywhere else!
High teacher turnover. The principal does not respect and value his staff. The school is good but could be great if more teachers stayed. The principal's treatment of staff should be looked at a little more closely.
Very satisfied with the education i have received here. Excellent teachers and principles, rigorous curriculum, excellent sports programs and a wide variety of clubs.
My son is a freshmen at PCHS and really likes it there. He's actually interested in going to school (finally!). I find the teachers to be great at communicating with me despite the fact that they have so many students. As far as the traffic problem in the morning, here's a brilliant idea... have your little princesses and princes actually RIDE THE BUS and there you have it, traffic problem solved! Your children won't shrivel up and die if they ride the school bus. I feel that my son is getting a quality education and that his teachers are able to give him one on one attention IF he attends smart lunch. The choice is his and if he chooses to not utilize the resources available to him, that's on my son, NOT the school. The resources are there. As far as the leadership goes, I only know that the principal held us captive at Freshman Parent camp for the most long winded, not-important speech ever. I was very turned off by that. The person that spoke after him actually had information that I needed and she was cut short because he used up all the time talking about himself. I have no other experience with the leadership.
This school excels in academics, athletics, and the arts. Teachers and administration are organized, caring, and have high expectations. Great school spirit. We love it.
The comments from the parents post 9/28/11 are right on target. Not sure who "actually'' wrote the review for September 29, 2011 in rebuttal to this one on September 28, 2011; however, in reviewing all of the posts, it seems pretty unanimous with parents being unhappy with Admin, Teachers, PCH overall, the parking lot in the a.m., etc. As the saying goes, if you continue to hear/read about the same things all the time, there must be some truth to it! I certainly agree with what the poster stated dated 9/28/11. Also, why extend the offer to the poster to volunteer, or help out if the school already is so great? Quite contradictory it seems.....
Yesterday's post is laughable! First, school spirit: PCHS's student section was rated the best student section in the Triangle for the 2010-11 school year and is one of the finalist again this year. Mr. Nelson is not an attention seeker, but he is easy to find. He has some of the best APs in the area and they have been able to attract excellent departmental heads. For example, Performing Arts/D. Robinson is one of the best in the state, and easy to work with. Athletics/T. Schuler is an exceptional leader and has built one of the best coaching staffs in the state. As for the Janitorial/Maintenance staff, Hector and Nadam are fantastic! They go above and beyond each and every day. Typically staying late and coming in early. I'm sorry, but this parent is at a minimum uninformed and if his/her concerns are sincere, then get involved and help make things better. Join the PTSA, Band Boosters, Athletic Boosters, volunteer in the Media Center, front office, etc. etc. I wouldn't want my child in any other school than Panther Creek!
In my own humble opinion, I feel that Panther Creek High and Wake County schools are not great. It seems that PCH lacks school spirit on all levels. In addition, I cannot fathom why the textbook budget was ever eliminated. Recently, cuts have been made with School Nurse's and Janitorial/Maintenance. These positions are essential in keeping the school clean and hygienic, especially since the incident of students defecating in the bathroom sinks and walls, thus the bathrooms being closed for the rest of the school year(4/11). Many things are not disclosed to parents. Moreover, I don't think that many Teacher's are HQ status and I do not understand why many of the Teacher's curriculum is not reviewed or approved by Administration. I get the sense that they just do whatever they want to regarding curriculum. There's such a lack of presence of leadership which really hurts the school; therefore, I have to agree with other postings about the Principal hiding behind the desk. Overall, I wish that the hype about PCH and Cary, NC would stop. The school and the area itself are mediocre at best. There are other areas in the U.S. that are better, even with budget cuts. I am not impressed.
I have been happy with the academics and most of the teachers. Some are amazing, and we are fortunate to have them, but others have no business teaching children. Although knowledgeable about the subject matter they teach, there has been harsh treatment by the teachers towards the capable children (honors students) and a sense of superiority by the teachers and staff. There is no leadership in the school, and the principal basically lets the administrators and teachers do their own thing with his full support, no oversight. Teachers who step over the line are not redressed but emboldened. Some juniors and seniors do not even know what their principal looks like as he only comes out for show, else he is merely the voice coming out of the public address system. I have been particularly disappointed by the counselors and 504 Team in place to supposedly support the children. Not so. If there are good teachers at Panther Creek, it is because they have a heart for the children, not themselves. Parents are not valued unless they have nothing but praise for the school.
Wonderful school. High number of rigorous AP courses, tons of clubs and activities, friendly environment for students.
The comments are right on target. We need new leadership that treats parents and children with respect.
I dont know what the parent who wrote the best school in wake , has seen that others have not. the principle is not the best the staff are not friendly and the instructions for the most part seem to be good but they are never availiable . the children are treated like adults instead of children (which they are) . there need to be an open door policy for the parents to come and see whats going on at the school without being treated like unwanted citizens as soon as they walk in the door. what is there to hide. it seems that they school would be glad that parents want to observed and see whats going on with their child. They call us when something is wrong ,but they need to communicate before things happen.
This is one of the best schools in Wake Co., and North Carolina. I rate the principal as 5 star, the teachers and other categories as a 5 as well.
