I absolutely love this school. Teachers are wonderful. Administration is very good. My child loves going to school. Ms. V and Mr. K are wonderful to work with. 5 star rating!
Alston Ridge is a great school with Great Teachers. The kids are very fortionate to attend such a great school.
School Administration (Principle and VP) are the very worst I have ever seen or had to work with. They are uneducated and lack severely in People Skills. The teachers seem to be doing their best with the workload and number of students that are assigned to them.
There are nine Kindergarten classes at Alston Ridge Elementary School. Many of the K teachers have advanced degrees and have been teaching for many years. There are many curriculum changes throughout Wake County which put extreme pressure on both students and teachers. From my experience, the K teachers care deeply about each child and want them to have a wonderful experience.
We are thinking of transferring our kid to this school but after reading reviews about the Principal what can be done? I am sure a petition can be filed and sent to to wake county school system to have her removed. After reading the reviews now I am confused whether I should send my son there or not. Any feedback parents??
I have a kindergartner in the school and the teacher is so young and inexperience; 90% of the K- teacher are very inexperience!!! Every single morning my kid doesn't want to go to school and it really bothers me and I have talked to teacher about it but she talks like the kids have to behave and be like 3rd grader!!!! The people in front office are so mean and unprofessional..... Rarely allow parents to do volunteers work at school and I have ask many time from the teacher to help in the class as a volunteer and she keeps saying she will let me know and it has been 4 months. I will apply for transfer and take my kid out....
We transferred to Alston Ridge & have been blown away with the education, dedication, & the support of teachers & administration alike. If I were a parent that was used to getting my way by bullying school administration, I would not be happy at Alston Ridge because it is simply not tolerated, nor should it be. Yes, Ms. V has "high standards" for her students. I am appreciative that Ms. V. runs a school that values "standards" reinforcing life skills that include respect, leadership, & dignity. Far beyond "Core Curriculum," Ms V & her staff are teaching my children to be kind, appreciative, modest, & polite human beings at an age that is impressionable. We have never witnessed "bullying" to staff, in fact we have only seen the exact opposite. At the end of open house Ms. V & Mr. C went to every classroom scooting parents out of the rooms to ensure that their teachers were able to leave. Yes, teachers are also held to "high standards." I appreciate that my kids are getting a strong start in their foundations & have maintained the ability to keep up with the rigorous new "core." It's undeniable that Alston Ridge staff & principal truly care, love, & want only the best for our kids.
I enjoy working at Alston Ridge. The staff is incredible! You won't find more dedicated teachers anywhere. The principal has high expectations for staff and students, but that's part of what makes instruction here top notch! Ms. Venezia supports the teachers with all of the state and county expectations, and encourages them to become leaders.
A note about teacher retention- Retention in ANY school is low because of all the increased demands on the teachers and administrators and the second lowest pay in the country. Check out the salaries for teachers on the wake county website. They work 60+ hours a week for little over minimum wage. Please support our educators, they make all careers possible!
As an educator with 20+ years of service, I'd like to say that It is a pleasure working for Alston Ridge Elementary. The school is efficiently run. The staff is dedicated and immensely supportive of all their students and wonderful parents support the staff. It's a win, win situation! Ms. Venezia has high expectations from the staff as well as the students. The proof of all this effort is the outstanding test scores for this school! Bravo!
Im am so glad others are speaking up and agree with the last post. The school is wonderful and one person that had a bad experience writing negative posts over and over does not accurately describe this wonderful school. We have been involved in many different schools(work transfers) and this is by far the best run school with amazing teachers.
My daughter has been going to this school for last 3 years and I have had very pleasant experience overall. It is not easy to run a school that is growing exponentially. I strongly advice parents that have strong personal opinions, please don't try to ruin the school reputation in the pubic domain. If you see any issue with the way school is being managed, use the Wake County School system to resolve it. Collectively community owns the school and we want to see the school, children and staff succeed in bringing the positive outcome. Do not pick the public forum to demoralize the hard working school staff including principal. Most of these staff members are not compensated enough for the hard work they put in. Before we point finger at some one at school not doing their job, we need to ask over selves how we as parents doing our part!
First of all anyone that has not worked in a school setting does not have any idea what it takes to manage a school. I have worked at an elementary school and I have seen the demands and expectations that this county has for teachers and for principals. To manage and run a school with over 900 students and over 100 employees is tremendous and it takes a strong person to do it such as Ms. Venezia. In the 20 plus years that I have been involved with the wake county school system (since I have 4 children) I have learned that having a disciplined, organized, structured and caring principal makes the school. I have only encountered two principals in all this years that I have been involved in the schools with my children. One of them is Dr. Munn who retired years ago and the second one is Ms. Venezia. I truly think she is an exceptional principal. I like that the school has such a strong leader.
The teacher whose posted that she disagrees with the negative comments has obviously had a great personal experience with the school principal. Please ignore her review the stark reality persists and is prevalent everywhere in the school atmosphere only because of the an autocratic bully who should not be elevated to the position of a school principal. She is demoralising and mean and has created a very unprofessional atmosphere there. The teachers bear her constant threat, strict persona and are scared all the time to even speak in the school staff meetings or amongst themselves. Some parents are also aware as to what happen at this school with regards to school principal. I urge people to not send your kids to this school as it has an unhealthy and dubious atmosphere and doesn't do justice to the whole concept of public school system. Please ignore any positive comments and believe this school can only be better if the school principsl Ms V is removed and a more capable, well experienced and an able administrator who is a good leader and leads by example becomes the principal.
I "was" thinking about moving to an area where this school would have been my children's base elem school. After reading the reviews?!?!!! Absolutely NOT!! Welcome to NC?! If the reviews for NC schools are not already BAD enough now this?!?!!! WHY?!? Why people?! If we live in the USA?! Why?! So our only option is paying for "private schools" because in this grand country our educational system is a joke?! Im embarrassed & completely disatisfied with anyone being "scared" of another person-period, much less anyone being an enabler to an already devastating poor public school educational system then add a comunity of adults who allow themselves to be "bullied." You CAN CHANGE...the power is in it's people. Furthermore, thank you all for your honesty, this is the first step to change. As a parent of 3 children i now can make "BETTER" choices because of these reviews. I applaud each & every one of you.
I will be applying for a transfer for my child next year. It is too bad because there are many great teachers at Alston Ridge and would be a great school if only it had a different principal. The last time I was in the office I left speechless at the way she was talking to a parent. Her tone was completely demeaning and rude. I have heard similar complaints from many of my neighbors of who have interacted with her including one who left in tears. The staff seems scared of her and it is obvious that it is a tense environment there. Some people have mentioned people complain about her because of the rules. I am also an educator and I agree clear and consistent rules are an essential part of running a school. Just because you have strict rules, however, does not mean that you need to bully people and be disrespectful and rude. There are a lot of great large elementary schools in the area who have principals who do not treat parents and staff in this manner. Principals should be role models for children. What message are we sending our kids when they see the leader of their school treating people so poorly? Our kids deserve better than this.
Is the school really this awful?? We are thinking of moving to the area and I am not sure because of all the terrible reviews.
The principal, Mrs. V, is awful. Don't let her fool you, she is not a nice or friendly person, it is not uncommon to see teachers in tears from being so overwhelmed by all of her demands and put downs. She is a bully, not an effective leader. I would be concerned with how large the classes are and the boarding school like feel, definitely not the place for kids with any kind of special need. Funny thing is, everyone else in the building is incredibly friendly and seem to really love the children. The children do so well at this school because of the dedicated staff and parents, not Mrs. V. Just wish Wake County would send this lady to a desk job in central office and give Alston Ridge the opportunity to be the great school it should be!
Shame that Wake County couldn't find a better Principal. Always so angry and unhappy. What a miserable example for children99 Kudos to the A+ teachers and students. Poor program here for special needs kids. Full capacity this year will be a challenge.
WHAT A SHAME! The same Principal remains here. as you can see from previous posts, she is a tyrannical, rude, obnoxious person. This seems to be a typical Wake County issue. Parents have no say! If you are thinking of moving to Wake County, DON'T!!! It's too large and only about numbers.
