Teachers at this school are a problem. They misuse there power and deflate kid's self esteem. One teacher told a friend of mine's child that "he would never amount to anything." The teachers that are supportive and kind people are rare. Most are unhappy people who were poor students that had to get a job and now are teachers. My kid doesn't think his teachers like him. Sad that I have to send him to this place to be bullied by his teachers.
The teachers at this school are not effective. However the EOGS are fantastic. Kids teach themselves or parents pay for tutoring. Parents are also involved and often teach their children so students at this school do well on EOGs-not because of teachers.
Some if the worst teachers give the most homework so they can blame the kids fur they're bad grade when they dont do their homework. The good teachers teach and then have the kids do classwork to learn the topic. The bad teachers are the ones that overload in homework bec it is the only way the kid will learn bec the teacher can't teach. Kids have to teach themselves.
Students become determined to get out of this school. They call it "prison." Teachers are insulting and misuse their power. My child knew three kids who either were depressed and in counseling or attempted suicide or were cutting on themselves.
One kid I knew made a 100 on a test and her teacher made her take it over because she thought the kid cheated. Kid was forced to retake it and teachervestched the kid like a hawk. Kid made something like a 96 on the retake. Teacher never complemented the student.
In the midst of certain trying times with the admin. I found myself coming together with several parents who's children also attend the school and have had similar negative experiences with this school.
Many South Charlotte Middle School teachers seem to believe that students should be self-directed learners, as I see may be a trending belief from other comments on this school. Higher quality teachers equate with just the right amount of homework; This school is lacking.
South Charlotte has been gaining a negative reputation in this city of their administrative conduct. Anything the school would be able to bestow upon students in the arena of persistence, grit, or determination would be from their show of such in fighting parents and reasonable arguments. For any underdogs in the school, the opposite teachings may be learned from this practice, of learned helplessness.
