In most communities, where your parents live is what determines which high school you can enroll at, because there are usually "attendance zones" or boundaries for each school. Sometimes, within a district, if there is only one school with a particular special program, then you may have a choice... Is that the case here, where one is your "regular" school and most of your friends will be attending it, but the other offers an IB program?
In my opinion, if you're already friends with kids, you can remain friends no matter where you attend classes. You're not supposed to be socializing during class-time, anyway. You might have to make an extra call to find out what's going on after school or weekends, but it can be done. If you've been accepted into the IB program, which will open a lot of doors in college, then you also have a chance of expanding your circle of friends by participating in it, even if it is at a different school. (In other words, at one school, you only get friends, no IB program. At the other school, you get the IB program, can keep old friends, plus meet new ones.....) I'd go for the school with the IB program. If it really doesn't work out, your "home school" would probably be able to take you back, into a less challenging curriculum, but I"m not even sure if you could join the IB program later if you didn't start off as a Freshman...29255
Well, they are both in my zone, they both have IB programs, and each half of my friends are going to both. I go to an IB middle school, so there's a chance i could get into both. So i'm still not sure which one to go to.29254
Does one offer more extracurricular activities than the other, or offer DIFFERENT clubs that you might prefer? Is one closer than the other? If you get involved in after-school stuff, you'll be commuting back and forth a lot (my son was involved in drama club, and there were practices every night in the weeks leading up to the productions...) Have you taken a tour of both schools? That's something you should definitely do, if you haven't already.29253
