School has not even started yet, but when I go by the school, I am greeted by lots of friendly faces. This school has been around for a while, but I think this will be its best year yet. The teachers are friendly, academically challenging, and love the Lord. You can't go wrong with choosing Lake Norman Christian School!

My children have been attending LKNC for 5 years. This year has been incredible. Wonderful teachers, a dedicated staff, Christ centered education at a reasonable private school tuition, strong academic standards, active parent volunteers, additional sports have been added, family events and more. I am pleased with the education and confidence my 2 children have received. cholastic achievements, as well as her moral development. The teachers are wonderful role models . Parent volunteering is encouraged but not mandatory. Small class sizes (10-15 per class) allow teachers to give each student the attention and education they deserve. The school building itself is "historic" but it adds to the charm and fits in with the town of Davidson. Numerous upgrades and improvements have been made to the building and many more are in the works. Technology is being upgraded.

What a wonderful school! As a regular volunteer at the school, I get to see and hear what is going on, and I just have to say, there is something really special in this school. The administrators, teachers, and even the students continue to wow me. The new headmaster is an exceptional and Christlike leader who actually listens to people and responds patiently and reasonably. Teachers truly care about educating their students - equipping them with life long learning skills, helping them develop in their minds and hearts, coming alongside individual kids to meet them where they are in life and learning, and collaborate with other teachers to best plan how to help individual children in development, and of course they teach challenging, engaging, and relevant lessons. Wow again. And the kids - they are so special. I wish all kids could have peers like these. They are a community for each other in the best sense of "community". What I've seen in general is that kids are kind to each other here, they encourage each other with sweet notes, they exert positive peer pressure, they are respectful..... Oh my goodness, can you tell that I like this place?

We joined the LKNC family last year from another private school in the area. The other school was good but simply become too large. It is a great community of kids and families. I saw incredible growth of my kids academically, socially, and spiritually. As you evaluate your educational options, consider Lake Norman Christian school. I am looking forward to another great year - so are my kids.

Wow! I read a lot of the negative posts on here. It is true, the school has been through a lot, but it has made the school a stronger place. Most business's have growing pains! It important to find the right fit to lead the school. I am very happy with the school. I know God has some amazing things in store for it.

We love Lake Norman Christian! I have 2 kids at LKNC (in 5th & 7th grades). This is our 2nd year here and we have enrolled for next year. My kids were excelling in CMS (in the Talent Development Program) and they are being challenged academically here. More importantly, their spiritual growth has been amazing. Every teacher is passionate about teaching and cares very deeply about the students. I cannot imagine sending my children to any other school after experiencing what a truly Christ-centered education offers them.

New to the area, my children first attended a different christian school where they lost their love for school and were a number. Lake Norman Christian cares. My children are enjoying school, truly learning (not just memorizing), benefiting from smaller classes and developing their characters in a christian environment. This school has amazing teachers.

We made the decision to leave CMS last year after another dismal year. Our first year at Lake Norman Christian was a terrific experiece. My kids thrived academically, socially, and spiritually. They went from fearing school to thriving in school. If you are looking to an alternative to CMS and weren't lucky enough to win the charter school lottery, it's well worth your time to at least visit the school. The principal and teacher are outstanding.

LKNC staff have hearts of gold. The parents and students love the Lord. But the school is in serious financial trouble. All schools struggle in the first few years but how many have 4 administrators in the first 4 years of existence? This school is throwing good money after bad trying to dig itself out of a HUGE hole. Ephesians 4:25 Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.

This is our 3rd year at LKNC. Despite numerous changes, one thing remains the same; our children are receiving an awesome education from caring,Christ centered, individuals. All new schools go through tremendous changes in their first few years. Having faith, and being able to get past personal issues to the real core of the reason we are there has helped us to weather these changes. EDUCATION is the most important thing. Are my kids getting the best education right now? YES! YES! YES!! They have both thrived in the small environment and have uplifting and personal relationships with their teachers. A parent could not ask for more.

I love lake norman christian, it is a real school, it is not hidden behind large budgets or large athletic programs. Those who stand firm with their faith and not bash or ridicule others who have tough decisions to make are those who truly follow the teachings of Jesus Christ! I love Jesus and I love LKNC, because this school changed my daughters life, and gave her confidence that she never had. Praise LKNC and Jesus Christ (our lord and saviour), those who walk the hard path will truly be rewarded.

I am a parent of a student who has been attending this school since it started 3 years ago. I was actually asked by a school board member to write a favorable review on this site to boost the confidence in the school's online reputation. I in all honesty can not write a favorable review as I am dismayed over recent events that took place during this past school year & with the poor leadership of the school board & the administration who in my opinion have not been acting in a Christ Like Manner when letting staff members go or expelling a child 3 weeks before school let out. They didn't even let the parents know that they were bidding on the Davidson building that CMS was shutting the doors of until the very last day of the school year. The reason CMS shut the doors to Davidson building is due to the HIGH operating cost & the poor condition the building is in. I can't fathom just how LKNC thinks it is going to be able to pay the cost of getting the building up to safe standards, plus the overall operating cost to maintain it with the low enrollment they have at present time. We were trying to stay loyal to the school but this issue is the final straw and we will be moving on.

As a parent I am now also concerned with the future of LKNC. We were told school was having a carwash to raise money for supplies. We are not sure we have made the best decision for our children. The school has also lost the school board chairman and other members on the board, many sports are also being pulled. Asked questions and listen to the office hedge around the answers.

We have had a great 3 years at Lake Norman Christian and we still are committed to the school as the school is going through quite a bit of transition which I think is most likely common for most small start up schools and especially in this time of economic challenge. While there has been some communication issues where things coule have been more timely, I still feel the board and staff at Lake Norman Christian have a heart for the Lord and a desire to do what is right. The merger being called off was a good thing I believe and I think in all honesty for the school to grow into and excellent school some changes that were made recently were for teh best. For any prospective parent I think you need to tour the school and find out first hand what you think and where you feel God is leading you and your famikly. For me it has been imperative that my kids learn in a Christian environment where they are loved by their teachers and staff and that has always been th case and will continue to be so,

My children attended this school for 3 years. Now we are leaving to go to another Christian school in the area, one we never thought we would attend. I love the teachers, but feel with all the changes in administration and the poor decisions being made by the school board that the good teachers will probably not be happy and decide to leave too. Not merging with the Montessori school was a good decision. The merger was scaring away parents. Unfortunately the school board doesn't seem to be able to make good decisions anymore. They are constantly changing their minds and going against their word. They have failed miserably to communictae with the parents in a timely manner and that has driven many famiies away. Recently the parents found out through the local newspaper that the school was considering moving to a new location. The board had to scramble to send out the word after the fact. Which was also the case with letting the principal go. Most families found out on facebook instead of from the school. It just doesn't seem like the board and administration have it together.

Once LKNC gets through this current drama, things will be great. It was time for the principal to go (she was a better teacher than administrator), and we need to move on. Change is tough, but I think LKNC is headed in the right direction and it will continue to do so. Thank goodness someone had the sense to stop the merger with the Montessori school. We LOVE this school and can't wait to get back in the fall! My children are flourishing!

Now another change of an unstable school. Now the merger is NOT happening. Another lie that goes along with building a new school on the property that we do NOT have. What next, we are now down to 88 kids K-9th. Withdrew my kids last week.

All of our experiences have been positive. Not to say that this is perfect, but it certainly doesn't deserve the bashing its getting. This has been a new year for us and we were so blessed to have found this school. It has been a perfect match for our children's needs. Not only do they enjoy their school day, but their prayer life has matured beyond our hopes. Every teacher loves these kids! We will be going back next year!

LKNC is not LKNC anymore people. It is now LKNC in name only. To sum it up in one sentence. The school board pretty much sold out with the merger of Christian Montessori. Think about it...All the key LKNC leaders including a LOT of BOARD MEMBERS and founders of the school are already gone or are being let go at the end of this school year including the founding principle. My advice get out while you can...

Many of the teachers and staff members have been let go at LKNC recently due to budget cuts. They say they are trying to build a new school but how do they plan to build a new school when they can't even pay their staff members and are letting go faculty. As of May 5th they do not currently have enough staff members to function as a school next year unless they rehire many many more staff members (this includes rehiring many very good teachers that were not only fired but left of there own free will). Many staff and parents are unhappy with the direction LKNC is headed.

Prospective parents, beware! These bad reviews are coming from one set of parents who have a vendetta against the school. They are asking other parents to post bad reviews, and how can one trust that. Come visit LKNC, and you will see what a wonderful place it is - it's full of loving teachers who really care about our kids, their education, and their spiritual development. We love this school.

May 09, 2011
My children have attended LKNC since the year after it opened, and we all love it. Both children are thriving academically and spiritually. For example, my 7th grade son scored significantly above average on the standardized tests last year, with the vast majority of the subjects testing in the 10th grade or better range. Equally if not more importantly, my children are learning to apply Biblical principles and are developing a servant's heart. Recently my daughter heard my friend asking why God allowed war. She piped up that she could answer that question, and went on to explain the answer based on lessons she had learned in both Bible and History class. The only reason I have given the school an 'above average' rating versus an'excellent' rating is that it is currently going through some growing pains, as evidenced by some of the recent postings. Although the general communications from the principle (ad-hoc and weekly) and from the teachers is solid, the head of school and the school board are struggling to communicate and explain their decisions in front of the rumor mill. They need to crack this nut in order to return to 'excellent' status.

I am very disappointed at what is happening at LKNC. First off, as a parent, not receiving any notification from the school and reading about it in Social Media. Don't we count! We chose LKNC last year because of the teachers and staffs values of putting God first and the love and caring for all the children. Now feel like it is all upside down and don't understand why. Seems they are getting rid of the key elements that made LKNC successful in the first place. We feel we are forced to look elsewhere since LKNC is becoming like the rest. ?? Wonder where all the good people are going so we can follow them!

My recommendation would be to let the head of school go if the school has to make cut backs. Keep the founder of Christian Montessori and LKNC's founding Principle. Re-enrollment has not been the best already as evident in not having 10th and 11th grades next year and the need for cutbacks. This fact alone proves parents are not happy with the ways things have been going. Teachers who are not happy and it is evident that they are not with the latest developments will start to look elsewhere as well and if that happens you can guarantee the parents who are trying to stay loyal to the school will give up on it as well. I agree it is not the same school it was 3 years ago. We love the teachers & especially the LKNC Principle who we have known since our child started in Kindergarten at HCA who is now in the 4th grade at LKNC. We used to feel like we were partners with the school but the new head of school & the way the school board have been making decisions lately have shown that they really do not care at all of what the parents want. The only reason why this has been a great school year for our child is the teachers & the elementary Principle at LKNC.

Have never been more dissappointed!! Very unhappy that the school board and the Head of School don't value the loyalty and hard work of the elementary principle. She is the one person that truely exemplifies what the school stands for (at least it used to stand for). Seems the school board and the new Head of School have other ideas on how LKNC should be run, the school has moved so far away from the values and the standards that made it unique. LKNC is becoming just another private school with a christian name. We had planned to return next year but due to all the drastic changes and lack of stability we will be looking for another school.

I love the teacher, however, I am extremely disappointed in the new administration and school board. They have taken the heart and soul out of the school by deciding to let go of the current principle. She has been there from the start of the school and put all her heart into building it to what it is today. She is the face to all the families who have come through the door and are now there. I understand the need to balance the budget, but they could have offered her an elementary school teaching position at the least. And on top of all this, the parents have received no commuincation from the board. We are hearing this from our sad kids who now don't want to go back there to school next year without her there.

I can understand why some parents would like to voice their concerns on this venue, after all this is a site to share your experience with the school so others can make a wise choice which would also include a personal visit to the school but it helps to get perspective from others who actually are in the know. I know of several people who have had concerns with the new head of school and school board and didn't get anyhere when they took their concerns to the source, in their words they were dismissed as unimportant. In my own personal opinion, the school itself is great. I do have concerns myself about several major decisions that have been made lately that does not seem to be in the best interest of the school and I am not the only one with these concerns and that is one of the reasons why a lot of people are leaving and not coming back next year. I have decided to re-enroll my children for the next school year but only after a lot of prayer and faith in the actual teachers and elem. prinicpal who is great.

As a grand parent approaching retirement age, I am amazed and concerned by all of the news of bad events happening in our schools every day. As I visit Lake Norman and speak with the teachers and administrators, and my grandchildren, I realize that this school is a great source of hope for the future of our children and our nation. Lake Norman students are being taught values by positive role models, and know right from wrong. And they know that the source of our values is not so much the laws of the nation that can be changed and avoided, but it is the teachings and example of Jesus Christ that never waivers and will always be a source of strength and comfort no matter where they go in life. Public or private, this is what makes a school great, Lake Norman has its priorities right. I see the criticical comments as being about human frailties and communication preferences. We are all human, and learn from our experiences every day. To me, the school is great because of they have a mission that is clear and staff committed to carry it out. They love the Lord and they teach the children to love. What a great compliment to what we as parents and grandparents should do.

This seems to be turning into a school for difficult children. The gossip comes from the administration all the way down. Before you hit the car, everyone is aware of what is going on in your life. Many loyal parents are afraid to voice concerns because of fear of retaliation and threats. Some of the curriculum is the same as public schools. The problems are the same as public schools only you get to pay extra for them. The glowing reviews appear to be from the administration. Personally, I would like to see them return to their first love. When one of the founding teachers left - that should have been a big clue that things were going south.

LKNC is a blessing to the community. Their faith is strong & Christ-centered. The school encourages diversity in their staff & pedagogical culture. I love how each student is valued for their gifts & each is encouraged to shine with their strengths & strive to overcome any challenges. You will not find a one size fits all approach to learning. There is structure, it just isn t draconian. The staff is empowered to modify teaching & approach to meet the needs of each student. The class size is an asset for LKNC. Keeping class sizes small (13 for my son) allows for each student to get the individual attention he/she needs. The parents are active in the school, which benefits everyone. I m proud to send my son to LKNC & encourage anyone reading this to give them a call and schedule a visit. It will be time well spent.

This school is a great Christian school. It has had some growing pains as it is only 3 years old but it is evident that God is behind this school and He is the one who has been opening doors for this school. Great sercurity system is installed and each family is given a private code number to get in the building - otherwise you have to be buzzed in and there is video camera at front door so the office staff can see whose at the door. Great information emails informing parents of upcoming events and the school uses renweb which is a great tool for parents to keep in touch with how their child is doing in academics.

Disorganized, way too many e-mails, parents allowed to roam and are encouraged to "hang out". Academics are poor, curriculum relies heavy on memorization, no creativity in the curriculum, children become bored with lack of stimulation from curriculum. Ask administration to present teacher qualifications; there are teachers teaching that have not completed degrees or student teaching.

Disorganized, still leasing space at a church. Administration very unprofessional, emails and phone calls are not readily returned by Principal. Parents are allowed to roam hallways, cafeteria, even un-announced visits to classrooms?? at a whim. Security is very lax. They are not academically challenging however they do teach a lot of community service which is their focus, character building thru service projects. They are up front and honest about their academics. Be sure to ask for average test scores because they do test each grade (2nd and up) at the end of the year.

Come & see it for yourself! LKNC has God's hand all over it. You will be amazed at what HE has done in this school and thru the staff & administration. The school is a reflection of God in so many ways: His love is evident immediately; things are done with excellence; the 'whole' child is addressed. My daughter has had the best academic year of her life. She hasn't always liked school but she's showing more confidence & independence. I have no doubt that this is due to the support she receives from her classroom teacher, the teachers' assistants, the principal, the librarian and even the Special teachers. She is pushed to perform at her best academically but with a great deal of love & encouragement. Best of all she has adults modeling Christ-like behavior on a daily basis who are sincere about their spiritual walk.

I have 2 children at LKNC and both of them will tell you that they love their school and their teachers. I love that LKNC focuses on the 'whole' child and all the staff is filled with Gods love and grace. I am greatful that they can go to school to learn academically and spiritually and how to be a respectfull Christian leader one day. The teachers can actually teach and I don't have to worry about he/she wasting the instruction time with discipline issues. If there are issues, they are always handled with love and grace. All the children have a high respect for their teachers. God teaches us in the Bible to raise a child up in the way in which he shall go and he will not steer from it. I feel that LKNC does just that. They reinforce the morals and discipline we teach at home.

Both of my children love going to school each day. I have a child in elementary school and a child in middle school. They both enjoy playing in the band. My daughter likes taekwondo club and my son has thoroughly enjoyed playing basketball on the middle school team for Coach Rodney Monroe. I never have to remind him to pack his basketball clothes in the morning, because he is excited to go to practice each day. The school teaches Bible class every day and has chapel services twice per week, with motivational speakers from around the world and local churches. Most importantly, LKNC focuses on educating and developing the 'whole' child, nurturing them academically, physically, and spiritually. Students are taught about and through the grace and mercy of Christ. The goal of the school is to develop the students into Christian leaders who will influence their environment for Christ.
