My son started as a kindergartener at LCS and will be a rising 9th grader. I can't tell you how proud I am of the school, including the teachers, principal and other supporting staff. My son has wonderful friends, a great rapport with the teachers and has excelled in both academics and athletics. The school welcomes and values volunteers, including parents, grandparents and othes in the community. Upon entering middle school, he was concerned about the athletic program, but now ,as his middle school years are coming to an end, there are no regrets. He has been able to gain a fair share of playing time and have coaches who really care about him as a person, not just what he can do for the team. And yes, there are some teachers who offer after school tutoring, free of charge. Now that's going above and beyond the call of duty!! So thanks Lincoln Charter, we would not consider changing high schools at this time....we've had 9 years to see all of the good things LCS has to offer the youth of our communities!

My son transferred into 9th grade at the beginning of the 2011-2012 year. Previously designated as a gifted student in another county, we spent 2 HORRIBLE years in East Lincoln's public middle school (even the asst superintendent told me the school was not operating as it should!) where my son's scores and interest in education plummeted. Thankfully, we got into LCS (barely--off the wait list). God was watching out for us!! The teachers really go above and beyond to make real-life connections with the students. The school does everything to promote positive interaction, community service and a family culture. Yes, you DO need to be involved in your child's education. RUN to enter this lottery--if you are a concerned parent looking for a great college prep program, without a private school pricetag, LCS can't be beat. Small school atmosphere with big community climate. My son is back to entering honors level courses for next year. We LOVE Mr. Hall, Ms. Thompson, and Mr. Perry. They gave my son a love of learning again!!

I absolutely love Lincoln Charter school, I have two children that attend the elementary and middle school campus. I am an educator as well and when I toured this school I knew it was perfect for my children, because I recognize great teachers, and wonderful leadership when I see it. I look forward to my children graduating from LCS, and will do everything I can to be involved with their academic growth and to help the school with my volunteer services.

I have 2 children who attend LCS currently. I also have a child who attended regular public school. I see the differences in how everyday things are handled. Regular public school teaches to test LCS does not, if your child needs extra help it is available after school and for free. The basics are still taught such as cursive handwriting. We still say the pledge. Probably the best thing is no block style in high school.

When my children transferred to East Lincoln High School, 4 of my daughters classes from Lincoln Charter were not credited. There are Virtual High School (online classes provided by NC Board of Education?Department of Instruction?) that Lincoln Charter will not give students credit for if they take these free public education online classes. If your student is interested in these classes, it is best to speak with the principal about credits before enrolling your student in this school. I know it doesnt make sense. LCS is a public school and the free online classes are for all NC students and are creditied to the student at other public schools. Maybe, LCS has changed their policy. LCS has a much better environment with less discipline issues, violence, immorality, drugs, etc. My children attended LCS for about 10 yrs. Yes, LCS has some issues. Every school does! Compared to regular public schools in this area, LCS issues seem trivial.

Athletic Director/Dean of Students is inefficient and unresponsive. Director defers to him; utter lack of leadership. Disappointing experience; wonderful teachers who were discarded if they did not belong to the incestuous clique of church members and donors.

LCS test scores are lumped together for both campuses. The Denver campus is more organized and offers above standard education and opportunities. The Lincolnton campus does not offer what they promise. The instruction is standard and lacks creativity. The Core Knowledge Curriculum seems to take away from teaching basics, as teachers complain they do not have enough time to cover it all. Parental complaints this year ranged from children being left alone in classrooms, teachers making inappropriate comments on social networking sites about their jobs and students, disorganization, and lack of communication. Teachers complained of an unsupportive Lincolnton administration that supports favoritism among staff.
