Gravelly Hill Middle is an excellent school with extremely well qualified teachers (many NBCT's) and counselors and the communication between parents and administrators has much improved (as well as the website) since my daughter was in 6th grade (she's now in 8th). The band and chorus teachers are fabulous and dedicated. The building itself is relatively new, clean, and provides enough space for every student. We are lucky to have room for all students. I know many schools do not have enough desks, chairs, etc. due to growth in nearby counties. The track coaches are wonderful, as well as others. The field trips, especially this year, have been great; age- appropriate, interesting, and relating to curriculum and the "coming of age" for teens. There is less "free time," b/c it's middles school...take electives or participate in an after school activity. I would also advise volunteering at dances or on field trips to get a real feel of the place. Staff has worked really hard to build a community and I can say that has happened for many 8th graders and I say "thank you!"

the people that run this school, run it like a prison. the students don't have any free time at all. they don't get to use the lockers like they need to and the lunchtime is like being in bootcamp. they don't get to sit where they want to. they don't have the time to eat. they are rushed in and out of the cafeteria like a heard of cattle. they don't get to talk with their friends and are told to hurry up and eat quickly. it is not a wonder that my son comes home everyday saying that he is so hungry when i get home from work at 5 pm because he didn't get to eat hardly any of his lunch. this school has had 3 different principles in 3 years time. not a good track record at all. it use to be good when mr. johnson was there but since he left, this school has gone totally down hill. it isn't the school like it used to be when it first opened. it has gotten really bad in the last 2 years. i'll be so glad when my student is done with this school. feel sorry for the students just starting in the fall.

This school is amazing. It is always so clean and sanitary and the teachers are extremely well educated and kind. This school also provides many options for students in their elective classes. This is a truly great school.

I have been told on several occasions that my children are not given enough time to eat lunch. It seems that again we are not trusting the kids and the teachers to go to lunch in a timely and orderly fashion, so now each group is escorted to the lunch room which takes away their time to eat. Once in the cafeteria the lines are long to get their food and the process is slow, the microwaves are too few for the amount of kids using them, which by time my children get through this process have only 10 to 12 minutes to eat; then with 5 minutes remaining to eat they are rushed and pushed out of the cafeteria whether they are finished or not. Each child should be given 30 minutes to eat from the time they enter the cafeteria until it is time to leave. The leaders of this school should also remember that going to a public school is also a social skills learning ground, the kids should be allowed to talk to friends and classmates during appropriate times like lunch, this will also let the kids blow off some energy and enjoy their experience of going to school. Remember this is a public school not a military school.

Excellent School. Both my daughters attend and the staff and principal do an outstanding job. Perhaps one of the best middle schools in North Carolina.

I think the teachers work hard - my son loves his elective teachers. I am very impressed with all the latest technology.

I am involved in the PTSA for GHMS. I am pretty happy with the school thus far. it is not perfect but Mr. johnson (the Principal) is fairly proactive. He does not tolerate teachers who are not meeting expectations. The curriculum has some deficiencies (science) but again, the administration is attacking this problem with vigor. GREAT band program. Chorus and Art are good. Advanced math is available with a good teacher. AIG Language Arts for 8th grade is challenging. Room to improve but I have confidence it will.

GHMS is the best school that I have ever been apart of. Administration is very supportive and the kids just love the school. Administration has very high expectations for all involved at the school!

GHMS is the best school that I have ever seen. I love the school and my kids love the school. Teachers and Administration bends over backwards to make sure that the kids needs are meet. Administration has high expectations for everyone involved in the schools community

Worst School I have ever seen. Administration has no control over the students and provides absolutely no support to their teachers.
