I am a parent of a student at Erwin Elementary and I am also an educator. I have been more than pleased with the quality of teachers. My child has had teachers who really seemed to make an effort to connect with students and to motivate them to do their best. Mrs. Thurman has been an administrator who is willing to work with students and parents and who has been fair in her dealing with parents, students, and staff. She encourages them to be the best and test scores have improved! Often people have negative things to say because they did not get their way but at Erwin I truly feel decisions are made such that all students are treated equitably and all have the same opportunities to experience success. For the first time, my child (and friends) are excited about learning and truly engaged in the learning process!
Erwin is an excellent school. I was not sure about a public Montessori school but Dr. Parker and the wonderful staff and teachers at Erwin make it happen. They are supurb in implementing the Montessori methods in the classroom. They also have excellent art, music and PE programs. Additionally, they provide assistance to children who might be struggling in an area. We have attended private Montessori schools and also other GCS public schools ... I have to say Erwin is great!!!
My child has really enjoyed attending Erwin Elementary for the past 3 years. I have nothing but good things to say about the school and the staff. I hate he has to leave but he will be well prepared for Coats-Erwin because of the teachers and staff at Erwin Elementary.
My child loves this school as well. This is my second child to attend Erwin. My oldest is now a student at Coats-Erwin, and he was very well prepared for middle school. The teachers and staff are wonderful! They all work very hard to help all children succeed.
My child loves this school. His teacher is very carring. The staff is very friendly and helps whenever possible. Over the last few years I feel that Erwin Elementary has come a long way in the effort to be the best. The staff and students strive very hard for success. I would have to give this school an overall 5 stars for excellent. Erwin Elementary is the best!
Under current administration, test scores and educational quality has sharply declined. The level of parent involvement is minimal and discouraged. Many parents do not feel welcome.
