I have found at this school that the teachers work very long hours including weekends and very late nights so that they can give their very best to each and every one of their students. Students come from very different home environments which puts a lot on the teachers at this school including behavior issues, but they don't let this stand in their way. Their ultimate goal every day is for their students to succeed and show academic growth and they care for them as if they were their own children. I would strongly recommend this school to any parent who is looking for a caring, structured environment for their child's education.
Unlike the previous review, I think the problem is inappropriately applied structure. The children aren't given opportunities to decompress and play. Recess is hit and miss at best. Then they are punished for talking and letting off steam during lunch and in between activities. Children are going to release energy somehow, so it would be better to allow them positive times and ways to do it. Academically, while there are some good teachers, giving the students a good education seems to be an uphill battle that is being lost. For a child to excel, they are largely left to themselves. The teachers and administrators do have good intentions and work hard, and it is clear that they care about the kids. But it's just not paying off.
The educational opportunities at Brightwood are very minimal. Discipline and structure are lacking at this school. Priorities in the classroom are not uniform and too much time is spent off task, with the at-risk children that need attention and nurturing. Teachers cannot meet the real needs of the children in mid to upper academics. The school rating of 2 is very accurate for this school.
