The Guilford County Schools District (GCS) offers a range of options through its magnet program. In addition to their neighborhood schools, students can apply to attend schools with such themes as the arts, communications, foreign languages, International Baccalaureate (IB), science and technology; the deadline is in early March. High school students can also apply to attend other "choice schools" in their district.
Under the federal No Child Left Behind law, students attending a Title I school designated as "in need of improvement" have the right to attend a higher-performing school in the district.In North Carolina children can attend their neighborhood schools or charter schools. Low-income students are eligible for scholarship funding to attend private schools.
